Depends on the company, there is a LOT of people who want consultancy jobs out here, and whilst the market is booming, market rates for selling consultants are coming down with competition and packages are not as lucrative as in years gone by. I applied to 3-4 very reputable consultancies out here a...

A tragedy, but surely worse will be to come for Dubai. All these towers they build have virtually no way out if you're way up in an office/ residential block. Even low-rise buildings that are split up would be forced to have fire escapes in Europe/ USA, too much pack em in and f**k the consequences ...

The peaks of thr oil price in the last few years were caused by a huge risk perception and low stocks in many developed economies. The risk of supply is clearer now and stocks are up, so prices will go down anyway, though by no means back to pre-Iraq invasion levels. I don't think it will be deliber...

President Clinton Mk II?

I see Hilary Clinton has thrown her hat in the ring for the Democrat presidential nominee at the next election. Long been mooted and so not really a surprise, will be interesting if she's helped by public backlash to the "testosterone" politics of Bush. I've never really warmed to her but ...

It will be interesting to see the impact Barak Obama (whose middle name is 'Hussein') has. He is very impressive - both as a orator and a writer. I've been impressed by what I have read, seen and heard of Mr Obama. Interesting times ahead with the next Dem Pres candidate being potentially a black o...

The world needs The Libertines in their record collection, they saved rock n' roll so saving humanity should be an easy stretch for them. Don't have the article on this computer but the latest figures show that 4 of the 5 biggest emitters of greenhouse gases per capita are in the GCC, the remaining ...

Hmmmm, interesting. Annoying as I only just got Skype to work, hopefully the free PC to PC calls work. Doesn’t mention any penalties for using it though, hopefully sending the letter is just part of their “obligations” to the ministry and they don’t enforce too hard. It is a joke having an internet ...

Have to say I really don’t like Rice, leaves me colder than Hilary does. Don’t think she’ll be helped by her current close role in the ongoing Iraq war (even if she only inherited the job).

I'm not a supporter of the death sentence, but if a country has it it's hard to see exactly how they would fail to hand it out for someone helping to kill 60 people at a wedding. I guess more Westerner-baiting here (which I'm obviously biting to...), but what makes a lioness of someone killing peopl...

The whole article presents several theories, but I'd read in other media months ago that OPEC wanted to keep oil around 50 bucks this year so it's not like they've suddenly moved it down at the behest of Washington.

It varies, but I've seen quite a few villas stay on the market for 2-3 months now so don't always listen to the old estate agent stuff about having 10 people viewing it and you needing to sign immediately. Sure, if it's a nice place at a good price it probably will go quickly, but people are shoppin...

So what did the people at the wedding do to support the invasion? And how come for every 1 soldier killed there's at least another 30 Iraqis killed in attacks without a Brit or American in sight? Hey, even I could understand a little if all they did was target invading forces, however, the targets a...

I saw the lion comments and was part of the topic first time around, you still haven't even got close to justifying suicide bombing though.

Sex choice for genuine medical conditions is acceptable, though leaving this as a loophole means people will still cheat the system. Interestingly, the preference for male is strong in the 2 most populous nations on Earth, it could have very big implications on their future economies, growth and int...

Most useless jobs in Dubai

Been here a few months now and experienced the delights of the head-banging bureaucracy that keeps the chosen ones in dirhams, but I thought I'd try to find out just what is the most useless employment of people who earn a few dirhams an hour to do, well, not very much. My nominations are: - toilet ...

Re: Most useless jobs in Dubai

- the guys who stand at road works waving red flags to tell you to slow down. Well, I say flags, often it's a piece of material about the size of a postage stamp and you don't know what he's doing until you're about 2 metres away. In other countries we have novel inventions that do this job better ...

DIC pull out of Liverpool deal

See Dubai International Capital have pulled out of the deal to buy Liverpool, despite a huge fanfare being made about it being a "done deal" before xmas.

Have to say as a football fan I thought they were in it for all the wrong reasons (ie. money) and so am glad they didn't succeed.

I would not say that some muslims don´t have mistress cause that would be a lie. What I need to remark is that especially the Arabs (not all!!!!) here in Dubai like the unfidelity, not like the arabs in other countries. But what I can say is that a guy who is married with (for example) 2 women does...

Abu Dhabi get a Grand Prix

See Abu Dhabi has got an F1 grand prix starting 2009. I know Mubadala have links to Ferrari, but would have thought it would be more sensible to have in Dubai, there's more hotels/ infrastructure here to support bigger events. Good news for the UAE though.
