Alcohol From Ajman & UAQ To Dubai

Alcohol from Ajman & UAQ to Dubai Nov 12, 2006
This is to inform all who may not know the law here in UAE.

Many people like to go to the Hole in the Wall - Ajman or the Baracuda Hotel UAQ from Dubai, to purchase Alcoholic products for personal consumption, thinking that it is OK to do so.

In so doing you have to transport the Alcohol back to Dubai, you must pass through Sharjah. If you have an accident or are pulled over by the Police and the Alcohol is discovered you will be arrested, charged, convicted and deported, Sharjah has ZERO TOLERANCE for this offense.

...true of course, but only for people without a liquor licence.
If you are non-muslim and own a liqour licence it is ok to transport booze in your car within/through Sharjah and even to consume beer/booze at your home in Sharjah.
It is even possible to get a liquour licence in Sharjah as a Sharjah resident.

It is an urban legend that there are no liquour licences in SHJ.

You are partially correct, you do however have to have a receipt from a legally registered liquor store like A & E, clearly indicating that that you have paid the Federal Tax of 30%, this is definately not available from Ajman or UAQ.
And yes you can get a liquor license from the Sharjah Police.

As a muslim your options are:

1) Have a non-muslim friend who has a license buy for you
2) buy it from the airport duty free on your left after you are done with passport control however you will be limited to 4 cases of beer or 4 ltrs of spirits.
3) Go to Ajman/UAQ liquor stores however you will face the risks in the OP including lashing since you are a Muslim and Sharia law applies to you.
3) be a good muslim and dont drink :P
