like the rest of the worlds capital's, Dubai is learning a lot about "market forces" - Me, i bought on dubai marina 3 years ago when most of the expats were badmouthing the future of the property market. The vision was there in 2002, most people then thought "it wont happen here" - It did!! its call...

If you live near IBN Battuta mall you can get sim cards in Geant the large supermarket or any of the mobile shops. Yes you can make Intl calls, i have costed calling the UK at about 50p or 3.5Dhs per minute. And on Fridays all calls are half price.

... or find a friend working in Internet City, or living in Greens / Springs etc. who had direct internet access (not through Etisalat). (Etisalat are *really* p!ssed at this - which is why they won't make decent mobile telephone sub-stations in these areas. So _really_ bad mobile connections) Alth...

I wouldn't bother buying property here, to many unknowns and no security, resale values etc. I disagree Choc. the UAE and Dubai in particular has passed the point of "no return" regarding the unknowns and security regarding buying property as an investment. This was being said by all the expats sat...

Another thing that a lot of "expats" forget, is that someone like me who has puchased property in Dubai, can apply for Residency as an "investor". Now that i have done this i can live there without actually having to work :). Expats who dont own propery have to work to live there -ie "no work - no D...

Hi Jag Respecfully i am going to have to disagree with you on many of the points you raised. Firstly i will address the "build quality" issue. I have an Emaar Property in the new district 4 on the marina. I am a property developer and own many properties both in the UK and Dubai. I have to say for w...

Hi Jag Good debate i agree with you. With regards the 99 year lease you mentioned, yes that was the case back before May 2002. Emaar's first phase which is the 5 towers on Marina Walk, Murjan Maesk etc were all sold initially on a 99 year lease. People like myself walked in the sales centre and then...

A tourist visa is valid for 60 days now not 30. Loads of people do this and just keep going out of the country and re-entering to renew the tourist visa for another 60 days, but obviously if you stack up a load of stamps in your passport then immigration will get suspicious. only for certain countr...

Hm OK some good points raised and no disrespect taken. But I've looked into the propery market here quite a bit, there was a recent big article slating several of the big construction companies for the finishes on their properties, particularly in the Spings/moeadows area and the Greens Community. ...

I'm usually against banning people. But in this case, I wanted to never see his posts again. It doesn't matter how "different" his opinion is, as long as he articulates it in a way that is constructive to the discourse. But his posts are nothing like that. First of all you can never make out which ...

Re: Buying

as far as i know, none of the local banks offer 100% morgages, most require a 30% deposit and the balance over 13- 15 years. i do seem to remember seeing a posting at one point saying that hsbc would finance 100%, but can't remember the details. prehaps someone has some first hand knowledge of this...
