Hi all, I know Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted in Dubai/Middle East but I was wondering if people here accept American Express equally?

My new corporate card is an AMEX, can anyone share their experiences with this card in the Middle East, specifically Dubai?

They AMEX came from their offices in Bahrain in oerder to promote to their card. the card is not that much popular coz banks are not promoting for it.

I have some info and brochurse from them.

i wanted to apply the other day..but.. could u also dear tell me whats good about having such a card?

My corporate card is also Amex and I've found its mostly accepted and like Arnie said carrefour don't take it, and neither does Geant.

Also I've come across some restaurants that show the amex icon but they say they don't take it - cause they don't want to pay the higher surcharge.

For reference, Etisalat doesn't accept American Express either

AMEX has excellent exchange rates. My Emirates Bank Visa exchange rates are just an insulting rip off !!

Carrefour now takes Amex.
