Choosing a top or pants etc. that suit your body type and therefore make you look good, is not the same thing as having a vacuum stuck under you skin to suck cellulite out, or having a knife used to cut you open and reshape whatever you want reshaped.

I was also refering to cosmetics that promise to make you look half your age, when really they only provide superficial results. So many people spend a lot of money on those products! Diet and exercise are what help keep you young, not what is applied topically to the skin etc. A lot of those anti-aging products contain a cocktail of chemicals that are damaging to people's health.

Liban, they were only my back around my bra line if you must know!!!

I can see the for and against. But there are less invasive surgeries now and there are better things than Botox as well, some people totally overdo that.

Interestingly enough 'cellulite' was 'invented' by the cosmetic industry as an excuse to put loads of products on the shelves which cost a fortune and do absolutely nothing. This kind of fat is absolutely natural and the orange peel effect is normally caused by fat cells getting caught in certain areas. Excercise, drinking plenty of water and massaging the areas will reduce it just as well as any cream will.

I still disagree K. What we/how we present ourselves is Vanity period. Personally speaking, i can draw no difference between wearing clothes that make you look good, whether you wax or shave your legs, use make up, have nice hair/differnt style or altering a part of yourself to make yourself look better.

Well, we can't all walk around naked, so at some point we have to consider clothing choices.

Some people spend hours grooming and dressing every day. Is that a good use of time? Some would say yes, some would say no.

Some people spend much of their free time shopping for clothes and cosmetics, and they own lots of clothes and beauty products. This is not the norm for all people - some people buy what they need and spend the rest of their leisure hours playing sports, reading a book, volunteering, studying, etc.

Kanelli I think you hit the point right on the head people can spend their money on what they want so what is the issue if a man wants to get rid of his love handles with a bit of lipo or a women wants to get new boobs so they look better in their clothes so what go for it if you dont want to again thats their choice

The difference is that the guy could get rid of his love handles by changing his diet and exercise, plus his muscles, joints, heart, lungs etc. would also improve in condition as well as the cosmetic benefits if he were to go that route instead of surgery.

The woman can suffer infections and problems with the implants, and many boobs jobs look fake, especially when you are old and you have perky boobs while the rest of you is sagging.

Nowadays people want instant gratification and they want more - they aren't as willing to work hard to see results or be happy with what they have. Even if something is dangerous to our health we would risk it for instant gratification. This is reflected in the whole plastic surgery issue. (At least in my mind it is.)

K first of all apologies for messing up your post, i realised i used "edit" instead of "quote". ( i can edit because of mod status ). It was my mistake entirely.

Agreed K, but none of it makes it right or wrong, and thats my point. It is unfair to compare what is right for one, it may not right for someone else. That equally applies to cosmetic surgery.

Being unhappy with a part of your body and having it sorted, is no different to being unhappy with your wardrobe or having hairy legs waxed/shaved.

If someone chooses to endure pain on the operating, it is for no one but themselves to comment. I know you like to use your spare time to do constructive things you may enjoy, others would consider that not for them and spend their time and money otherwise.

At the end of the day its horses for courses.

Agree with Kanelli and Arnie...however it's an extended syndrome of the "I want it, and I want it now!" society we are living in. A structured programme of diet and excercise can eventually get you the shape or physique you want, but it is hard work and can take time. Surgery is a comparatively instant salve to the self conscious. It can make someone feel mentally more confident if they think they look like the ideal in their own head, but the risks to health and the long term effects are not considered at the time.

Biologically, the majority of topical lotions and potions available on the market are a waste of money as they have absolutely no effect. the skin is an impermeable membrane, it is designed to keep our essential bits in and unwanted substances out. Anything that therefore claims to have 'deep penetrating properties' or 'remove any wrinkles' or 'moisturise', is false. Lanolin is the main ingredient of most of these lotions and can make skin temporary more supple on the surface and costs about 5Dhs in any pharmacy. Age smoothing cream? My arse!

However there are some benefits to society from plastic surgery:

If we did not have liposuction, there would be no McDonalds milk shakes!
And if we did not have breast implants, Jordan would not be keeping most of the spotty adolescent youth of the planet using tissues!

Grass doesnt grow in desert but ppl in dubai like it and it looks good... so if someone wants to get a boob-job done then its upto them. frankly its upto an individual.
Both ways its unnatural and will cost a lot of money and then artificial is artificial after all. You got to take care of it and its not lasting.
I wonder if they feel original? Havent tried though..... :D

Anyone hear about the latest development in sugery to keep boobs uplifted? A surgeon in Brussels has started using a titanium 'shelve' which sort of cups the existing breast. It's bolted onto the rib cage and apparently he's had good results so far. Although kinda weird, when you're dead and buried all that will be left will be titanium shelves - hehehe - nice!

IV no one is saying to get huge boobs my friend has sagging ones that are about half their normal size as they were before child birth all she wants is to go back to what they were before.Agree with you that massive ones arent the best and maybe when you get older you too may feel that you need a bit of improvement. In relation to men being able to get rid of love handles but diet change etc well i know a few who train and eat properly and still have issue when they are in mid 30s.I dont think a woman or man in there 20s should go for plastic surgery as not needed but late thirties and 40s yes go for it

It is of course everyone's own individual choice as to whether they want to have plastic surgery or not. I made comments because comments and opinions were solicited in this thread. :D

Botox (botulinum toxin A) is a cosmetic enhancement treatment designed to smooth out face and neck wrinkles. It is administered by injection and works by relaxing / paralysing specific muscles into which Botox is injected. This prevents the muscles from contracting and so smoothes out wrinkles in the overlying skin.

This is not BS but true-I knew of it but it also appeared last week or so in Emirates Today, I think. It just makes me laugh in a sadistic kind of sinster way-you go for a latte and come home with a permanent smile on your face......what must their husband's think?

Amzing to think that Botox comes from a lethal toxin - great!

Also they're now discovering problems with it, in people that have used it for years and years. They now end up having wrinkles in places you wouldn't normally have them as the face ends up using muscles it wouldn't normally use because the others are effectively frozen, so you end up using even more of the stuff. People go over board with it and get the freaky cat in the headlights look, it looks awful and plastic if over done. Plus to have botox injections in a non-sterile environment is not a very good idea.

Many people are now using fillers which last a lot longer than Botox, which needs to be readministered every 3-6 months. Fillers are usually water or saline solution based and basically fill out the wrinkles and lines. These usually last for about 5 years.

Of course you can go the the completely natural solution and have your arse fat sucked out and injected in your face - nice!

I thought it was the one about 'Hexactory' syndrome...as in the Japanese 'relationship' therapist who had a young lady attend his surgery complaining that she seemed unable find a suitable boyfriend. He proceeds to tell her to take off all her clothes and crawl on all fours to the door. He then makes her crawl all the way back again.

"Yes," he says..."You have Hexactory Syndrome!"

"What's that?" she asks,

"You face...it look Hexactory like you arse!"

Boom Boom!!!
