Moral Crimes. Dec 06, 2011
I watched an interview with an Afghan lady on the News last night.

Gulnaz was raped by her cousins husband. She was alone in the house with her nephews when the man returned home. He beat his children and then tied her legs and one arm together and raped her.
She became pregnant and went to the Police. He was jailed and so was she, for a Moral crime. Moral crimes include adultry and leaving home before your father gives you away to some man.
She was jailed for 3 years initially and it was raised to 13 on her appeal. He was jailed for 13 years (i think) and the term was lowered to 7 on appeal.
Gulnaz gave birth to her daughter on the floor of the cell she shares with a number of other women jailed for moral crimes.
She was told she wouldn't be released until she agreed to marry her attacker.
After 5000 people signed a petition Hamid Karzai has pardonned the woman. That was big of him, wasn't it? He says she is free to go with her 2 year old daughter and marry whom ever she chooses.
In the interview, last night, she says she intends to marry her attacker to save her families honour.

Poor woman.
