A new life in Dubai! Sep 09, 2005
Hi everyone,
I really need your help I am a 20 year old hairdresser and I am currently working for a well known company in the UK but would love to relocate to Dubai. I was just wondering if anyone here was a hairdresser or knows anything about the industry in Dubai who could give me some advice!
Is it possible to find jobs at my age?
What are the wages like and what is a reasonable amount to expect?
Also I've seen a few job advertisements saying accommodation provided, on a whole does this tend to be suitable and safe or is it better to find your own separate accommodation?
Any help you could give me would be great! thanks

Hi Layla,

You should post what you specialize in, so people in the forum can help further. There are a lot of job in that industry but a lot of the lower end jobs are filled by Asians, Other Arabs, Indians, etc... there are a fair amount of middle and high-end but most it is the owner that profits. Many jobs here stating accommodation provided will be a room in a villa or apartment with other employees. Some even have shared rooms or more then two in the room!? Additionally, some of the companies operate 6 days a week.

I know that it all sound negative, but I would rather you know it ahead of time before getting yourself into a bad situation.

Regards,

Thank you for replying to my post as you can see I need some good advice from someone who knows! I specialise in both cutting and colour at the moment and I'm looking for a job in the higher class salons like Toni&Guy. I say Toni&Guy because I dont know any others in Dubai that would pay well and have the right sort of client base. What are the European owned salons like as I've seen some of them advertising for western trained stylists?
Also someone told me that I'm to young to work in Dubai as you have to be 22, is that right!?

You can work at 21 I believe. But besides that you can try applyin to Toni&Guy here in dubai or just stop by the city and go salon shopping. I would think thats the best way.

Cheers,
