Looking for Villa in Arabian Ranches

Hey there,
Looking for a 2 bed Villa in the Ranches. Looking for the end of October occupancy. Married couple, no kids. Any word-of-mouth tips would be great. A short-term sublet would be okay as well. I have seen a few online, but am hoping I can save a few bucks. Thanks for any reply!

"Manager Tag" for visa-huh?

I have been offered a great job there, signed the offer, and sent in the required documents for visa arrangements. I was just asked if I had a Bachelor's degree, as per some rule they cannot give a "management tag" to anyone below a bachelor's degree. They said it was just for the course o...

Thanks English Girlie. I've looked at Betterhomes, etc. There seems to be lots in there. I will check out the Gulf News as well. The rents listed for identical places seem to have quite a range. I will have the whole year up front, so I plan to negotiate. Can't see why I should pay 145k when there i...

We've been doing some research in this area. There is the "British Vet" or something like that in A.D. that can do it all, even deliver the pet in Dubai. It is very pricey though. We are making the arrangements ourselves from Canada. My wife is the expert in this field! The real catch is t...

Hey Sage, thanks for the info. As per usual I am freaking out. I have signed the offer and we are all good to go. Does this change of title affect anything with my contract or the agreement we reached? Essentially, can I get screwed in any way? Thanks again for your input. Let me know if it is a for...

Hey thanks DBXSOUL. Is this something taht I should persue, this "manager tag" or no biggie? I appreciate your input. I have not heard of a "higher diploma" before. If it will make a difference to how my lifestye is, I should argue for it, no? Are you saying you can't have the wo...

Thanks again! Kinda funny how 2 diplomas and 15 years experience might not be construed as "management material". I guess I will get used to it....the different rules I mean. Hopefully they won't pull the plug on me after all this! You seem quite knowledgeable in this department, I never t...

Thank you very much fror your input. I spoke to the company yesterday and they assured me it was only for ease of visa purposes. The diplomas are still regarded by the company as being the standard for education, but are complying with UAE laws. The offer still stands...good news. I guess it would b...

Importing house contents to Dubai

I know this topic has come up before, but I wouldn't mind your 2 fils on my theory. We are coming from Canada, so essentially anything we are shipping has to be stuff we don't need for 2 months. I figured if we don't need it for 2 months, we probably don't need it at all! Not the case when it comes ...

Thanks for that....surprisingly enough I am sure there are folks that don't know about the power difference. (even my company emailed specifically for that). All the electrical goods I will bring are dual or 220V. I wish the move was done already! Less than 3 weeks! Yikes.

No way, dbxsoul, we are selling as much as we can, we decided. I/we don't feel like being in an empty house for months waiting for our stuff to arrive in Dubai. This is a one-way ticket for us! We have the luxury of going to a couple of other countries if need be, but I am sure this job will be fant...

All of you frequent posters (you know who you are) have your petty disagreements and flame wars but I have to say.....THANKS! I don't know that I would have opted for my position in Dubai if it wasn't for some of the advice I got here on this forum. It seems like the "old hats" have nothin...

Hey XTY....you have all been a great help to me, so maybe it's my turn! I currently live in Vancouver and am on my way to Dubai. When folks discuss cost of living in Dubai, it is very expensive, but Vancouver was recently given poor marks for a few things: namely high housing costs and poor mass-tra...

dubaidog, here's world's Cost of Living ranking I got from here . Toronto, the most expensive city in Canada, has dropped 35 places to position 82 ( score 78.8 ). Calgary and Vancouver have also tumbled down the rankings, sliding from 71st place to 92nd and 56th to 89th respectively. Ottawa remains...

Photo Radar malfunction?

Hey there....last night driving back from A.D., I could see a radar camera nailing every car that went by. I am not sure of the road, as I have never been to Abu Dhabi before. It was a 3-lane road with multiple exits..it takes you to the A.D. airport (I found out accidentally). Anyway, a sizeable Em...

Hey all, thanks for your help. The road I am speaking about is the main road where you then exit to take the Maqta bridge. Coming back last night, I see that I missed the exit and kept on going...that is where the camera got me. Anyway, looks like there are no fines to date, I guess I will just keep...

I would recommend enlisting the services of Dubai Kennels and Cattery (DKC). We were going in circles doing the permit and all that bringing our pets from Canada. They put us in touch with a company in Vancouver who did the Canada end of things, and they did all the Dubai end. In fact, we tried to s...

That housing allowance gets you more than you need. I have a 2 bed villa brand new for less than that. The car allowance might be low, but you can definately drive a functional NEW commuter car for that money. The question is, do you want to save or splurge? You can live pretty high on the hog by Ca...

My advice would be not to go. I've been on a cruse last year, the most fancy in the Mediterranean and never again! There is a bunch of "rich" people on the ship thinking they are kings of the worlds with no manners and all they do is eat eat and once again eat. By the end of the week I al...

Is that what it said? I saw the helicopter dragging something across the sky when I was at the Trade Center and had no clue what it said. If it was in arabic, that might clear it up. Couldda sworn it was English on one side. What a waste.

Most things here move slowly. If you gave your potential employer a reasonable price tag for your services, they'll call eventually. My employer here was "going to get back to me" with an offer letter. I called a couple of times, no one available, then 10 days later, the official letter wa...
