I dont get it, we have one troll claiming to be Bangladeshi, so that leads to Bangladesh as a country being bashed?

MB doesnt show any affinity to Bangladesh, nor does he post news related to my country, so why do we have to use his posts as a chance to criticize Bangladesh ?

I would say the blood money system shares part of the blame. When people can get away with paying 200,000 dhs depending on their status/connections, its not surprising to see such cases. The message is "if you are rich, you can run over anyone and just pay a small fine" Another factor to b...

There is a particular attitude towards animal abuse which I find a bit dusturbing...... If an animal is abused, (e.g. cats thrown from cars, dogs beaten), and someone points it out, a very popular reply is "Children and innocents are being killed in Country X, and you are talking about animals ...

"Car Pooling Permits hard to get"

Apparently ,if you apply for permission to have friends in your car, you have an acceptance chance of like 5%......... Could our members here recall any country, apart from maybe North Korea or places like Turkmenistan, or Mongolia where such laws exist.........i.e. you have to get prior permission ...

The Brits can be kicked out. In fact all Westerners can be sacked. If UAE needs it, it can employ other Arab nations or brotherly countries' nationals as first priority followed by Japan or such advanced countries with friendly ties. The problem is UAE didndt ask for your advice, nor will it take t...

I thought Dubai was a "free market economy" , so how come taxi companies have so much clout? Sources said thousands of applications were rejected because of pressure from taxi agencies, who fear a reduction in the number of passengers if more permits are issued. "I applied for the per...

Re: Worst Drivers in Dubai

Police officials have themselves admitted that Emiratis between 18-25 are most likely to kill others. From personal experience, the mentioned category along with some truck drivers (mostly Pakistanis) are dangerous. Some Arab expats also drive as if they have psychological issues

The solution is very simple. Enforce EQUALLY strict driving license tests and enforce traffic laws for everyone. There's no point having strict tests for truck drivers if well-connected 18 year olds can walk in and buy a license. Similarly, no point in deporting truck drivers for overspeeding if som...

The funny thing is that 95% of Pakistani drivers come from an ethnic group that is probably 20% of Pakistan's populations. That group also dominates the transport industry in Pakistan, and is notorious for being short-tempered, though with generally good driving reflexes..... Similarly, the Sunny do...

The lane thing is quite straightforward..... Dont occupy the fast lane, but often situations arise where one has to keep changing lanes. I like doing 160 on the AUH-Dubai highway, but i cant do the 2nd lane, because cars often cruise at 110-120 there. On the other hand, you have ppl racing at 180+ i...

Dont blame the reporters; for many spokespeople/officials, questioning any of their statements is seen as offensive. Few months after Salik's launch, we heard traffic had fallen by 40% or 50% , even though every person I spoke to swore it had very little effect. GN published the actual quote because...

I have noticed many Lebs have this vision that a BMW is the safest car ever, and that no one ever dies in a BMW, which is why many of them would rather drive run down 3 series Beemers than a new Lexus or an Avalon

I've been here three years and had only one anti-emirati comment made to me and that was from a lebanese woman not a westerner. I'm not surprised - Lebbo identity crisis. A lot Lebanese spend too much time saying, 'we're not really Arabs,' and try to behave/appear western. Well they are Arabs (Keln...

Agree with the above poster. Generalizations arent pretty but there's not much you can do when 80% drivers from a particular place drive in a similar way. Arab expats are very prone to jumping red signals (even more than locals). South Indians are quite panicky, while some Canadians are safety-obses...

Re: NYU in UAE

The NYU is a reasonably ranked private university in the US, not one of the major players by any way...

An important question is whether they will offer need blind admission, as top US private schools do, or will the Abu Dhabi campus be simply a cashcow ?
