One day of strikes and the Bazaar vendors manage to get the Govt to back down on a proposed increase in income tax.

Does this mean the Govt is week or the Souk workers extremely powerful?

Greeks have had major protests over their Govt efforts to get control over the financial problems - looks like the strikers there could learn a thing or two from Iran's shopkeepers!

Bazaar people in Iran are amazingly strong! In green protests there was a huge effort to gain their support, but it didnt happen! this strike means a lot and government is really scared of it!

Yes I heard the Bazar people are very strong and read somewhere it was them who had a big hand in starting the last revolution agaisnt the shah

I guess they are the equivalent of the big business lobbies in the States then. (Serious)

That s true, thye are not just shopkeepres, they are real owners of biggest business.
but they are mostly very religious...

now, the government has extended weekend to three more days off for this week, they say it s bacause of the temperature, but it actually related to Bazaar strike and the anniversary of one riot in 9th July 1999.
