Money question May 10, 2006
Hello all,
Am currently applying for a job as marketing manager of a big recreational site. Moving from France
Here are the conditions:
- Wage 10,000 AED/month
- Lodging allowance: 60, 000 AED/year
- Installation allowance: 10,000 AED
Utilities:

- 125 Euros/month (500 AED ) for gaz, water, electrity
- 120 Euros/month (450 AED) for transportation
Health card
One return flight to France per year
Might move to Dubai with girlfriend (have read about non-married couples), but still is it enough to live for 2 people?

Do you think it is a good package?
Thanks for advice

sorry to say in my humble opinion - its a crap package, but i guess its only relative to the standard of living you currently or wish to enjoy.

Ditto to what Arnie said.

Where's the recreational facility located?

What area of Dubai are you planning to stay?

You'll get a loft in the newer part of Dubai but everything else there is pretty below par if you wish to maintain the same standard of living as you have now in France.

If you don't intend on saving then the salary will get you by. The utilities is adequate. You will want to ask for at least tripple of that transport allowance to get u an average car and be able to maintain it.

The facility is located on Shiekh Zayed Road, exit 39 (4th interchange).
I have no idea about the different areas I could live in in Dubai.
Thanks for the tips anyway, I intend on saving a little bit though.
I think the wage is way too low.
You are saying that with the lodging allowance I could get a loft in that part of Dubai which I guess is quite expensive isnt it?
Can you advice a web site with Dubai maps please?
Thanks

Its a VERY modest package. Is your g/f (marry her before coming here) going to work also? If yes, then you will make by, if not then it will be very hard but NOT impossible.

Not everybody lives the lifestyle of the rich and famous here :)

If you want to be convenient to work then yes, ask for more accomodation as well. But as Liban said, you can live a very modest lifestyle here and people get by with much less that what you are being offered.

Having said that, just think in terms of relatives - ie what you might be accustomed to back in France. I don't know what you're used to in France but talking on averages unless you're considering a move for life experience ask your prospective employer for some slack on the housing and transport.

Thanks for the tips!
I don't want to live like a rich and famous. I am not dreaming. Standard westerner standard of living pretty much summarizes my life here in France.
it is a good job opportunity but I am also thinking in terms of financial comfort. I mean what is the point of going expat if you loose money considering that I will be in couple in Dubai not alone and consequently you don't have the same needs.

Everyone who is not a GCC national is considered an 'expat' here mate. You could be making 900dhs/month and be an expat.

If you're asking whether I am on an 'expat package' then yes, I am.

Saw that, power to them I reckon. About time they let it be known they weren't happy. But throwing rocks through windows was a little over the top - will just draw negative label.

Well, with the current fuel prices, 450 would be enough for the gasoline !!
So u need to buy a car, Say 50-60 thousad !! so, if u take a car loan !! say over 3-4 years, that's around 2000 Dhs less from the salary !! a month !!
just wanted u to keep that in ur mind !

hehehe, seriously though for your budget you would need to buy used. There are alot of cars out there and public transport isn't great so you'll need one.

I'd check out sites like www.autodealer.ae, make sure you have them throughly inspected though there is a lot of crap out there.

Good luck and welcome to dubai.
