benjw, you should see the conspiracy stuff in other threads like the 9/11 ones - why would it be a stretch on this forum that someone would claim the catering truck was crashed on purpose? Seriously though, I have no idea why you are commenting on my friends. Most have moved away from Dubai, some are staying because that is where the work is. Some do like being there and choose to be there even if offered work elsewhere. Don't see how any of that is relevant to my personal opinions of Dubai.

And DD, I think it was something like 30,000 "Canadians" in Lebanon who needed evacuation by the Canadian government, not hundreds. Then they were complaining at how slow the Canadian government was acting with the evacuations - Because sending ships for thousands is so easy...

Is that a Filipino or a Thai in the top pic?

Neither - she's Canadian, and so were all her ancestors going back millenia (back when their country wasn't called Canada). She's an inuit.

^ Very droll! I like it.

I see that the BBC have now picked up the story:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-12088449

It says it is in retaliation for the landing rights issue, and there is a loophole for visitors who fly in on Emirates or Etihad - the fees is only $72.50 for a 30 day visit visa (plus a refundable deposit).

It also says there are 25,000 Canadians in the UAE.

Cheers,
Shafique

But it seems the Canadians still want to come to the UAE - look at the lines!
