Philosophy and Reality Apr 18, 2006
Dear All,

Today I got two interesting mails from one of my friends; one is philosophical while the other one is of existence.

Philosophical :
Great Emperor Alexander at the time of his death said, "my last wish is that both my hands be kept dangling out of my coffin - I wish people to know that I came empty handed into this world and empty handed I go out of this world."

Existential:
Today's news headlines from Gulf News: Schools to raise tuition fees beyond 20%.

REALITY
I find a close relation between these two. Rent increase, Water-Electricity increase, now school fees increase... etc,etc.. is proving that we came to UAE empty handed and going out empty handed....

You do have to be philosophical, however you should also be aware that in this town, shit and money flow in opposite directions!

a land with no taxes, a lot of opportunities and very high gain... yes attractive enough that everyone seems to be wanting to go there! it's like the contemporary 'American Dream'. But things are changing so fast and nothing seems as easy as it was portrayed.
Worst thing would be to come to the country with full hands and leave with empty hands. So that's what new-comers should consider. Does it pay off with all the ever-increasing life expenses (e.g. rent, school)..

new comers are paying attention Apr 19, 2006
attention is being paid to the dilemma of expat..

On the last weeks BBC's dateline, a regular reporter Al Bari spoke in the hopes of getting the powers that be attention to the plight of expat workers to the gulf areas,

He spoke on the double standards of public schools, hospitals and basic inablility to obtain status ..

So attention is being brought to the world attention to some of the problems faced by expat...

Who knows...however,, he was able to point out that it is the western world leaders that spoil the ones in the gulf areas by overlooking and or rewarding wrongs in these areas.

Worthwhile expat living?

The overlooked issue is, that compared to most common sources the estimated inflation hovers around 12%.

For me, living here, I really think about leaving Dubai behind, since it's getting close to western reality, when it comes to make a decent living here.

I am forever trying to understand what would be a good reason for Arab,

and most importantly Muslim Leaders to follow the most debase trends

especially in business ideologies and building social infrastructure coming

from the Western countries especially the USA.

One could think, and hope that leaders (especially Muslim ones )study

history and historical patterns as some of the best examples and

guidelines for successful development..

One wonders about the substance of the prayers offered by some Muslim

leaders...One would think that they would learn and stop looking to

Non Muslims leaders and such societies for any kind of lasting , lingering

glimmer of success..

So I console myself with the idea that they see themselves, culture,

religious beliefs and aspirations as inferior to others inwardly, while

professing otherwise outwardly.

Usually, they forget why they should use Phaoroh and his empire as a

reminder for the present and future....Yet they recite words from the

undisputedly most beautiful balanced Book....and they know nothing else

the like will or can ever follow....

Forgeting to think of what they will leave and what they will take with them...

Yeah in all pictures of Pharoh i never see anything in his hand even as he

tried to or was forced to clutch something in his hands...

It seems Napolean was at least paying attention.
