Here are the main features and changes:

1. Upper right corner there is an A^ that will allow you to change the font size. Useful for those that wear glasses.

2. There is a new captcha that is more secure.

3. There is a quick reply option in the bottom of each topic.

4. We can create sub forums. You can suggest how to reorganize DubaiForums so that it feels less cluttered and more logical: Reorganizing Dubai Forums

5. All registered users can report spam and abusive posts with these buttons located in the upper right corner of each post. . The post will appear in the moderation control panel for moderators to take action.

6. There is a possibility to make the posts of new users premoderated, this means that their posts will not become public until a user having the proper privileges will review and accept them. This will considerably diminish the amount of spam but will create much more work for moderators. In theory it is possible to grand these reviewing powers to all the veteran users. What do you think about this?

7. New tools for moderators. Now moderators can Merge multiple topics into one. Can issue warnings to users that will be visible by the admin and more.

8. There is a possibility to upload images and include them in the posts via Upload attachment option. ( it's turned on in the general chat only at the moment).

9. We can create global announcements like this one that can be visible from any forum.

10. PMs can be reported to admins which makes them visible to them.


RECENT CHANGES (edited on 07 MAY 2010)
11. 2 messages posted in a row will be merged into one.
12. New users cannot post URLs until they posted 5 posts without URLs
13a. There is an Antispam mod installed that denies the posting if it contains several Spam words.
13b. The same antispam mod compares the information provided at registration and if it is reported in the StopForumSpam the user is denied registration.
14. There is a new category for non English Communities.
15. Moderators now soft delete the Posts so they can undelete them if necessary.
16. Users will now be automatically granted access to the Fight Club when they have 100+ posts.
17. Some forums from the General Discussion category became sub-forums for Dubai General Chat.
18. New users will be able to create a topic in the New Members forum only, before being allowed to post in other forums. There is a message on the registration page, about this. Hopefully this will protect from smart spam bots that can pass the captcha, and from inattentive human spammers that are doing things semi-automatically.

Point 6 is a great idea to stop new spammers. Go for it!

Point 10: Not a bad idea to allow members to report abusive PM's. I'm sure all PM's are accessible to Admins (by default),..but they should not be accessible to Mods!

2 things to your to-do list..

a. Clean up & remove inactive users (*perhaps user's who have not been active for a 8-9 months or above [also consider the number of posts they have made inregards with their inactivity..)

b. clean up & remove of threads that are spam and/or the ones with 0 replies and less number of views

Not only it would make df tidy..but you can actually have an upto date stat of the actual number of active df'ers & number of posts..

i can spare few minutes in cleaning up the dubai auto & dubai high tech

Deleting old, inactive members will reduce the total number of DF members!

That’s not good for the owners, who use that number to attract advertisers!

Andyba, the changes are great!

Many people here use this forum as a way to stay in touch and know what's happening in Dubai though they don't participate much on discussions. Inactive users could be the ones who never logged in for a certain period of time.

I had not noticed that all ads on DF were Google Ads.

It shows how much attention I pay to ads.

Well, i am talking about those users who creates an account in DF to post ad's / spam

Spammers should be removed of course.

Yea thats an excellent sugesstion. Would it be possible to create a realtime list of active users? In fact it's great from an advertising perspective as well

the mods should be able to do so ..

atleast andyba should be able to do it in the root level from mysql

Inactive users are ones who have not confirmed registration - usually bots that get past the captcha. Different from confirmed users that rarely or never log in.

Not by default with standard phpbb script as far as I know. They can be viewed by those with access to database of course (usually webmaster / developer).

The PMs are not accessible to forum Admins as well.
Only to the owner who has direct database access.
