What's the deal with getting prescriptions filled in the UAE?

Do you need to show the doctors/chemists history for requiring a product.

Does anyone know if thyroxine is readily available?

If I bring in like 7 jars will I be questioned? It has no use for anyone else nor it is it a "high" drug

you'd need to go to a dr. here to have the prescription filled.... would suggest you ask your current dr. for a copy of your file to bring with.

the place is pretty 1st world with regards to medicines and treatments - although normaly at a cost! if you bring medication in on your person they are sure to find it when they scan your bags, most of the customs people are first language arabic, you may have a hard time trying to make yourself understood .... it may not be worth the aggrivation

I looked up a govt website before we left and there is a list of available/allowable drugs on there. My understanding is that codeine based drugs are a no-no and also friends in the med. prof. have a bit of a laugh because you can basically get anything here without prescription yet anti-depressants you must have a prescription but they only fill it for something like three days worth -apparently not long enough for any benefit, so if you are depressed you are stuffed or you get over it in three days!!

you can get pretty much any medication in the uae without a prescription, although i suggest bring the prescription with you if you are bringing medication into the country.

also bring a precription with you, take it to a local pharmacy and see if the medication is locally available - 9 times out of 10 it will be or they will have an alternative or generic available for you.

no opiates or codine

you don't need to buy viagra over the internet you can pick it up at the pharmacy if you want it
