Imagine the World without the West!!!!!!! Jan 27, 2009
If Europe and America had never existed, the world today would not have the following:

Cars (first invented in the West, copied later by the Japanese & Others)

Trucks

Trains

Airplanes.

Cruise ships, Cargo Ships, oil tankers, steamboats...

Farming Tractors and Equipment

Cinema

Radios

Assembly line manufacturing

Advanced technology and education

TV (first invented in the West, copied later by the Japanese & Others)

Internet

Telephones

Lights

Electricity

Computers

Calculators

Refrigerators

Cameras

High rise buildings

Oil and all its by-products (Kerosene, Benzene, Asphalt..etc)

Air conditioners

Lifts

Glass

Pharmaceutical drugs (saved millions of lives)

Printing Presses

Copy machines

Polio and smallpox vaccines (saved millions of lives)

Concrete

Plastics

GPS

X-Ray

Medical Equipment and Instruments

And the list goes on.. not to mention the ensuing rampant poverty, ignorance and killer diseases in the absence of the above.

I wonder how MB and his brothers & sisters would’ve survived without the West!

Humans are inventor by nature. I suggest you to read about Islam’s history in term of science, math, and medicine or China’s history. Or the Egyptian’s civilisation and how they paved the way for great architectures and the modern world we live in now. You sound very ethnocentric in soppy way.

You also, forgot to remember that, a large number of inventors whom live/lived in the West originally came from non-European countries. The USA is built and established by migrants whom came from all over the world – people from European descent is only 50% of the population, and will be lesser in the future. Just like Australia, NZ some part of the European countries.

The rest of the world is now realizing the importance of education, and they are catching up, in 20 years time they’ll surpass those developed countries in term of innovations and development.

So we speak, the economy power is shifting from the West to the East. China and India soon will be the master of the new world, whether you like it or not. People in the West is losing their jobs, just over the last two weeks, close to a million people have lost their jobs in the West, and unfortunately with all the invention they have, they just couldn’t save their economy from collapsing. Some European economists have suggested that their governments should learn and internalize some features of the Islamic finance system – that’s fact. So now, the West is switching from capitalist to government control economy, just see how many banks now the governments are in controlled and have bailed out, it’s chaos in the West right now.

So we all live in this world, we all inspired by each others’ ideas, and humans are wired to invent in order to survive and advance. If you go to tribes who live in a forest, you wouldn’t have a clue how to survive, but they would know how to use the forest as a source of food, medicine etc.

You and a large European people will be fighting for jobs in Asian and the Gulf, as you are currently doing right now. No surprise, because people in the West have became more religious, they now teach primary kids religion at school, people attending churches religiously more than ever. Not to mention, Western’s economies have been stagnant and slowing compare to Asia and the Gulf.

Without migrants, European countries would have been dead long time ago, and mark my word, if European economies keep slipping backward, people will start to leave and we all know that a country without the power of the people is worth nothing. Humans will always have that caveman’s instinct to follow and seek places where they could find a better life.

So tell yourself and your brothers and sisters, you have to change your rigid and condescending attitude in order to survive in the new world, otherwise will be confined to your cold/cloudy places because the new world certainly won’t welcome people with a primitive attitude.

Excellent reply brother Humbleman.

Western world wouldn't have been anywhere without deception, mass murder, eviction from their own homes and massacres of Aboriginal and native peoples of Australia, North America and so on.

Western world was always barbaric in history and ONLy after copying from advanced Muslim nonwesterners did they learn something.

Do you know that Tom Jones's list is also full of errors?

I won't bother with all the items but off hand I can spot he mentioned 'oil' and 'glass' as being western inventions.

How foolish is that?

Many Muslim and nonmuslims even (like Chinese) had been using those for millennia.

It is amazing that the

lewd, lascivious, paedophile, promiscuous, incestuous, beastiality loving, drunkard, drug abusing, homosexual, immoral, deceptive, hypocritical

WESTERNERS

have done so much good for the world;

Yet these

hateful; despicable; evil; wicked; vile, radical; fanatic; extremist; reactionary; loathsome; horrible; disgusting ;sordid; mulish; narrow-minded; dogmatic; bigoted people like

the MUSLIMBANGLADESHI

have done nothing but blabber off poisonous hate and condemnation of all the west.

Good & productive vs. Hateful and useless!!!!!

Did you know that (according to the World Bank) the nominal GDP of is Germany is about 50 times that of Bangladesh; yet the population of Germany is only half of the population of Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi people are very productive people, aren’t they??

Just some stuff I thought I'd share...

Cameras:
The ancient Greeks thought our eyes emitted rays, like a laser, which enabled us to see. The first person to realize that light enters the eye, rather than leaving it, was the 10th-century Muslim mathematician, astronomer and physicist Ibn al-Haitham. He invented the first pin-hole camera after noticing the way light came through a hole in window shutters. The smaller the hole, the better the picture, he worked out, and set up the first Camera Obscura (from the Arab word qamara for a dark or private room). He is also credited with being the first man to shift physics from a philosophical activity to an experimental one.

Chemistry:
Distillation, the means of separating liquids through differences in their boiling points, was invented around the year 800 by Islam's foremost scientist, Jabir ibn Hayyan, who transformed alchemy into chemistry, inventing many of the basic processes and apparatus still in use today - liquefaction, crystallisation, distillation, purification, oxidisation, evaporation and filtration. As well as discovering sulphuric and nitric acid, he invented the alembic still, giving the world intense rosewater and other perfumes and alcoholic spirits (although drinking them is haram, or forbidden, in Islam). Ibn Hayyan emphasised systematic experimentation and was the founder of modern chemistry.

Checks:
The modern cheque comes from the Arabic saqq, a written vow to pay for goods when they were delivered, to avoid money having to be transported across dangerous terrain. In the 9th century, a Muslim businessman could cash a cheque in China drawn on his bank in Baghdad.

Surgery:
Many modern surgical instruments are of exactly the same design as those devised in the 10th century by a Muslim surgeon called al-Zahrawi. His scalpels, bone saws, forceps, fine scissors for eye surgery and many of the 200 instruments he devised are recognisable to a modern surgeon. It was he who discovered that catgut used for internal stitches dissolves away naturally (a discovery he made when his monkey ate his lute strings) and that it can be also used to make medicine capsules. In the 13th century, another Muslim medic named Ibn Nafis described the circulation of the blood, 300 years before William Harvey discovered it. Muslims doctors also invented anaesthetics of opium and alcohol mixes and developed hollow needles to suck cataracts from eyes in a technique still used today.

Windmills/Irrigation:
The windmill was invented in 634 for a Persian caliph and was used to grind corn and draw up water for irrigation. In the vast deserts of Arabia, when the seasonal streams ran dry, the only source of power was the wind which blew steadily from one direction for months. Mills had six or 12 sails covered in fabric or palm leaves. It was 500 years before the first windmill was seen in Europe.

The crank-shaft is a device which translates rotary into linear motion and is central to much of the machinery in the modern world, not least the internal combustion engine. One of the most important mechanical inventions in the history of humankind, it was created by a Muslim engineer called al-Jazari to raise water for irrigation. His 1206 Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices shows he also invented or refined the use of valves and pistons, devised some of the first mechanical clocks driven by water and weights, and was the father of robotics. Among his 50 other inventions was the combination lock.

There has to be a limit to propaganda.

Nobody knows for sure where chess was invented. Even Indians don't, persians also claim it as theirs.

Calculus was never known by Indians even during the British rule, and now Indians claim they invented calculus?

Algebra the word itself is derived from the abbreviation of Al-Khwarizmi's epic work.

If Indians invented trigonemetry, who do you think built the Pyramids in Egypt?

Your list is chock-full of errors.

Moreover Takshila(Taxila) is in PAKISTAN today. So is Sindh. You should mention these facts.

What does GDP per capita (that too, in nominal terms) have to do with productivity?

I think your understanding of economics is shallow, well I don't blame you, all your western countries are sinking fast in recession.

The price you pay for relying on Americans.

the history of arab world is very rich. but later generations completely ignored the importance of knowledge and arab world never grew up with the same pace as western world or some other countries. (oh! non-muslim)

What is the point of this "competition"?
Both cultures are rich, and all human inventions should be praised...

What about asking ourselves: what are WE going to leave behind, what positive impact can we have???

Great minds never lose themselves in pettiness...
