Actually, Pinoy= Filipino and not Philippino (referring to someone from the Philippines) As for the question " Can you afford all the basic necessities (in the Philippines) for only Dhs 2,500/month? ", I did my math and yes that is more than enough... half of that may still be enough. FYI, the Phili...

Can Nationality/Race Affect Salary Offered?

Im going to be blunt. Asians (such as I am) and some others are considered 2nd class in Dubai (of course 1st are the Caucasians), period. If a white guy and myself applied for the same job and we have the same qualifications, what are the chances that I'll be offered a lower salary (lower than what ...

It's all ok if they say we filipinos eat dogs, or thais eat cockroaches, or the chinese drink snake blood. It's our thing. If you don't like it then dont. As if you don't have something or practice something we dont like either. The problem starts when people look down on other peoples/races as if t...

I personally do not consider this as unfair because: Europeans are already getting paid well in Europe and they will not take a job in countries as far as the Middle East if the pay is not BETTER than what they already get! Same goes for Americans. So companies have to pay them that much otherwise ...

So it all boils down to (1) a person's self-worth; if you think you don't deserve that pathetic salary then don't accept it ang look somewhere else where your competencies will be well appreciated and compensated, and (2) the employer. At least you'll know what kind of an employer the company you ap...

Telecom Jobs.. where??

Doesn't Dubai need any Telecoms engineers? I've been searching in the internet and so far I found only about 2% telecom-related jobs among other jobs. Isn't this kind of profession needed in Dubai? I wonder who maintains the internet, inter-office communications of businesses, LAN's of offices, tele...

Companies seeking nationals for secretarial positions would have to comply with minimum wage requirements set by the Ministry of Labour on April 5, 2006.

Which means they've been in the practice of paying non-national secretaries below minimum?

Re: can enthusiasm get me a job?

I'm from the Republic of Moldova, which, just in case you were wondering, is a country in Easter Europe (not Africa! nor Asia! it's in Europe!). Is it such a big deal that you have to emphasize? Or you just know that it is much easier to get hired if they know you're european rather than african or...

Why do DF moderators keep on bashing each other?

I'm just curious... In many posts you'd notice this. Often times the poor thread becomes a free-for-all to the moderators. It's not really promoting a friendly atmosphere in DF, imho.

Work Ethics in Dubai

It's really disappointing. Here I am thinking that taking positive initiatives are good. But then my boss doesn't seem to appreciate such gestures and told me off about it. From where I came from, not taking initiatives at work equates to incompetence. I've talked with many people in dubai regarding...

Yes, I am working for a local company- a middle east-based company that is. I was thinking maybe it's a cultural thing? Because I thought, even though I haven't worked for a multi-national company (which I think means ran by westerners), they would entertain ideas from employees gladly. While here i...

Employees who are proactive at work are much appreciated. I personally would like to work with people who are proactive and who has initiatives. I really don't know what kind of work environment you're working for. Sometimes being proactive is a negative to a boss as he/she sees it as a threat to h...

I guess you're fortunate to have a boss who listens. While in my case, ideas get shot down before they could even take off. I've tried explaining stuff with my boss on several occasions, but he always cut discussions short, saying how these things are easy, blah blah... making it appear that I didn'...

Terrible at the same time alarming. This will become very common in the future if something's not done about how people drive here. Which leads me to ask why is it so hard to pass and get a driver's license while you can see how horrible majority of the drivers currently on the roads are? For exampl...

Rents will be too high for an "ordinary expat" (blacks and browns who are rank-and-files) while salaries remain low. They'll leave for other humane countries. All that'll be left here are hundreds of hotels with no personnel, restaurants with no service crew, buses and taxis without driver...
