Where do these people come from that they are not "familiar with the toilet seat"? Unless, of course, you are talking about the "straddle commode", you know, the one in the ground, which they pretty much have done away with here. In all honesty, have you ever been in a loo such ...

erm you don't leave the paper in there DD! Okay don't laugh but here's a suggestion - wetwipes! The ones you use for babies! Brilliant! I don't know about others but I do use hose AND paper to dry up. Best of both worlds :D When traveling to Europe, I use wet + dry tissue, and it took probab...

Re: Which bank do you prefer?

HSBC has decided small clients are no longer worth their time. thenational.ae/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091005/BUSINESS/710059917 Which of the local banks do you recommend? Which have the better service and the better perks? I see already that Emirates Bank has the most extensive ATM network (HS...

If possible I avoid international banks as often they charge very high fee, poor interests rate, and poor exchange rates. Moreover when you think they link with other branches in other country (same brand), actually they don't. Few years back I had HSBC Bahrain account and I couldn't withdraw money ...

Save the money. If you have Arab speaking friends who can translate documents, read yourself UAE Labour Law (Arabic & English version at elaws.gov.ae), and confident about the case (you have proofs, etc), then you don't need a lawyer. After all, most of the lawyers here are so lazy (do nothing)....

For the same reason I avoid small local banks which lure their clients with such dubious perks. One day they will correct your balance severely. That's why I said to stick to biggest ones. At least they have the experience and reputation, they won't (dare to) screw up, especially public listed comp...

But if he's taking a loan anyway, better to get from a dealer than buy privately, then at least you can sell the car back to the dealer - a friend of mine has just done that. Only when you pay in full first the remaining installments to the bank. You'd get clearance letter required by the buyer's i...

I understand your point and partly agree but I doubt that the biggest and reliable local banks offered the same perks as Mashreq or RAK. As long as they have reliable & secure internet banking, no fee and minimum balance account, free credit card for life then I'm satisfied enough. (NBD gold pa...

Pentax is rare here, unless you buy/bring all the gears from outside. Canon, Nikon (by GrandStores), and Sony (by Jumbo) are the most popular. Sigma (by MK Trading) is there as well though rare as well. Custom tax is 5% (from the last time I bought underwater camera + strobe from US). Al Falak (City...

I heard that the system is designed to read the licence plate thru a chip embedded in the license plate. If so, then it can be easily programmed to identify the vehicle type from the vehicle number registration. Doing it manually is clearly out of the question, with the thousands of cars passing by...

lawyer is quite expensive (vary between 7000-20000) and mostly they're lazy (no initiative, careless). first, i suggest to study yourself the law (elaws.gov.ae). so you know your position and rights. and having a friend who knows and can translate Arabic to English (vice versa) would be helpful. ins...

from labour law, if you were absent without valid reason for 7 consecutive days or 20 non-consecutive days in a year, then you're breaching article 120. means the company can terminate you without compensation.

court fee is not lawyer fee. i'm not sure you can claim your lawyer fee to your employer, check with your lawyer.

if you have the valid reason and more proof, you can submit more claim.

normally if you win mean you get all what you claim, but it all depends on judge decision.

there will be time when the currencies fall down, wars and rushes, and the banks can't be trusted. we put back our own assets (money, gold, etc) under the bed or in the underground volt, just like old days ;)

Elsewhere you have insurances to protect you against such things, here its not always possible. Speaking of insurance, this is where Credit Shield is supposed to come to the rescue to cover up the debts, right? Say with a proof that the card holder got terminated and has no balance in the account. ...
