Dubai 24th - 30th Nov, some questions about prices and stuff Oct 17, 2009
Hi

My name is Rob and I´m from Sweden.I´m going to dubai on the 24th of November for six days and I have some questions about some things you might be able to answer.

1. I´m staying at a hotel called tamanimarina at the marina and was wondering if theres a public beach in the vicinity or how to get to one?
2. I´d like to see Burj dubai as close as possible, are there any tourist picture spots or possibility to get up close or even inside?
3. I was hoping to do som shopping and i have some prices on stuff i´d like to compare with dubai, this is the prices it cost in Sweden with the current exchange rate:

Playstation 3 slim: 1600 AED
Diesel jeans: 600 AED
Iphone 3GS 32GB: 4600 AED

4. I was hoping to do some snorkeling and heard Fujairah is the place to go, can you just take a bus there and snorkel from the beach or do you have to go on a boat trip, if so is that costly?

Otherwise i´ll probably do the usual dubai tourist stuff like the skiing (although i´m actually running from the snow and winter :p ), desert trip, shopping. I guess the weather is pretty decent around that time too, not to warm and not to cold?
thanks in advance for any answers, i´ll problably come up with more later on :)

/Rob

Its the Tamani Aparthotel on the Soufah Road and there is no public beach nearby. The nearest is a mere 50 metre stretch of Public beach at JBR about 30 mins walk away.

You are only 10 mins taxi ride from the Burj Arab - take a taxi to the Jumeira Beach Hotel - use the skylift from the lobby for a great view and then dine outside at either Dhow and Anchor, Waterfront or the 360 Fish Restaurant for more great views. There are gas and light displays on the hour and a special i think at 10 pm with lasers etc.

Forget electricals in Dubai - can buy cheaper in UK, sorry dont know about Sweden/exchange rate

Hope this helps

On the snorkelling front you'll be disappointed, we have had red tide and it's killed pretty much everything. Was at Fujairah 2 weeks ago and it's nothing like it used to be.

1. No public beach nearby. Take a taxi to JBR or Umm Suqeim public beach (behind Umm Suqeim park), just next to Burj Al Arab hotel.
2. Burj Dubai, right? I think Arniegang was mistakenly referring to Burj Al Arab. Go to Dubai Mall (20-30 mins by taxi). Around Dubai Fountain area is one of the best spots to take a picture. Better yet to go to pool side terrace restaurant at The Address hotel adjacent Burj Dubai. I don't think you can go inside as it'd not be opened yet for public until 2nd Dec as they plan to.
3. Not sure the exact price. You can check sharafdg.com, emaxme.com, jackys.com. All are big electronic shops. Make sure it will work when you bring it back to Sweden, esp with the PS3 system & region things.
4. Choc is right, Dibba/KhorFakkan/Fujairah (2hours drive) are not that interesting now since red tide. Probably better at Musandam (Oman). You need to take a boat trip. Check dive/tour operators for example alboomdiving.com for packages. Better going to Red Sea or South East Asia for serious snorkeling/diving trip.

Choco obviously doesn't snorkel. Fujairah snorkeling is good about now. I go at least twice a week and it's much better than last year.

If you go to Khor Fakhan you can hook up with some of the Dive Shops along the Corniche. They do day trips to Musamdan (Oman) as well as Snoopy Island. If anything Fujairah (city) has improved in the last couple of years. Grown dramatically. Fujairah Emirate (where all the resorts are) is as nice as ever.

You can take a bus from dubai to Fujairah City but have to cab it north after that.

Cheers

Then I don't know where you go Dawg, but certainly around Snoopy Island, it was NOTHING like it used to be. 75% less fish, all the corals are dying and it's infested with sea urchins, which are also killing it all.

FYI, I snorkel and scuba dive!

with regards snorkelling and scuba diving, Fujairah is pretty boring. I suppose, Musandam is a lot better.

I went scuba last year in Fujairah with Al Boom but it was nothing like I expected. Dark water, poor visibility, not enough variety of fish to see :(

I've heard in Musandam, you can take a boat trip and the waters are pretty clear for snorkelling.

Diesel Jeans almost costs similar.
For electronics, try two shops in Bur Dubai (SHEEBA & PHONE LAND) - they have prices almost 5 to 10% cheaper than the big stores in malls.

The weather is awesome this time of the year.
