So when you researched your papers in school you solely relied on anecdotal evidence (sans- scientific statistics) from news articles that you found on the internet? Interesting. You get an F on that. enough said bye!!! Yes, I only used a source from an international awarding winning documentary se...

I think there's an instrument shop in the shopping bit under the Crowne Plaza too, upstairs in one of the corners somewhere (sorry for being so vague!)

I was refering to base pay as insulting Scot not a "paid villa", quite frankly paid accomodation is not all that a big deal as long as I get what I believe I'm worth....for me, a base salary of $4000 USD is an insult. Sorry! On the low paid workers one, got to say things don't look...

The Iraqis decided his fate. Yeah..right. And the tooth fairy is real and she actually took your wisdom tooth in exchange for cash. I'm sorry, do you not need American approval to post on this site? According to you nothing happens around here without them being involved. Best call the White House ...

No more diversions from me on this, I promise! If anything i would consider myself an Agnostic - so to me there are more important pressing matters in the world today. Agnostic and atheist both share a similarity that essentially says organised religion is not the answer, the agnostic just says ther...

Never been to Qatar, but have been looking at construction statistics of late. The rest of the Middle East is using their oil surpluses to essentially copy what Dubai has done and build to attract foreign investors, as one of the richest states per capita expect a lot of building in Qatar in the com...

In Northern IRELAND they wanted their own country away from the rule of the British Monarchy, wot did Margret Thacher do guess wot she killed them with the help of the British Royal Army. Erm, Northern Ireland is a country with its own parliament! You're talking about terrorists (the IRA and others...

Saudi and Iran could get along. If at best the UN could mediate. No way can the US be the middle man until it tones down the aggressive rhetoric against Iran. On the UN point, although it is supposed to be an effective international force, UN troops are often very ineffectual, not least because the...

Education is pretty good from what I see. My daughter is only 3 but we've been looking at schools already (foundation starts at 4 here) and it's a healthy selection, particularly in the West end of Dubai. I'd say the greatest proportion of schools at this end teach British curriculum and have Britis...

Pretty impressive deal. Of the communities listed, I'd look for Emirates Hills or Jumeirah, Arabian Ranches is quite a bit out. If you're interested in Emirates Hills in particular, get in touch with them asap as there will be a list you need to join. On Sky TV, there are 3 providers who infuriating...

Don't work in advertising myself but I work in Media City here and know some. In summary, pay seems pretty crap at the lower levels but gets better further up the scale (as in the UK). On CVs, it's common here for people just to fax in a CV or hand it in at the door and people actually look at it (a...

You don't get a gratuity on an open ended contract. Fixed term contracts include an annual or bi-annual payment as agreed, you can then renegotiate the contract if you wish to stay on.

Nothing like a misleading title to get the week of to a flyer  So sorry scotty, "up to 75%" is in fact accurate and Foreign Oil Companies didn't fit in the subject line, so I used the extremely misleading word: Foreigners. Hhhm, come to think of it, it's not that misleading. But inte...

Side as you will, from a business perspective it's wrong but makes great anti-West headline. As I say, you can't profit when you've not made your money back, and anyway it will only be for a very short period of time. Like them or loathe them (and most people loathe them), the big oil companies are ...

Like them or loathe them (and most people loathe them), the big oil companies are the biggest because they're the best at what they do. I'm sure any company can bid on the contracts, most won't bother though as they know they can't take them on. I repeat, why not honour the deals made with other We...

Obviously I don't know what the DF of old was like, but my experience is that it's often the people with a large amount of posts who stir up the most, so can't put it all at the newbies (although I like to stick my oar in now and again 8) ). Granted, not all of the old-timers are like this, could be...

Kanelli - I'm inclined to agree with your assessment but would not use the diplomatic terms you used :). However, why would France or Russia be seen as anti-Freedom, anti-Liberty or anti-whatever the US says it stands for? Scot - I find it difficult to conduct a discussion based on suppositions whe...

Oh, I see, that's what I'm upset about. Now what did I say about pigeon-holing? Wasn't pigeon holing, just generally didn't understand why you would be so upset about pre-war contracts being cancelled. My post was about finding a positive way forward for Iraq regardless of political affiliations, g...

Kanelli quite rightly points out this is what the US is doing. It's a theory to what the US is doing, but again given the the shortlist mentioned says one British, one Dutch and one American company are in the running it's not clear if that's true. Hey, maybe they'll just give it all to Exxon and p...

Ha ha very good. There are many examples of foreign companies buying in the US, not least the aforementioned BP buying Amaco a few years back, homeland security just too hot a topic for them. I don't agree with that particular decision tho.

I'm not sure if you're asking this to help develop a new business idea or just for your own personal ease, I'll go with the former and you can pick out some useful points if it's just the latter. First of all, a bank that offers decent customer service would be good. HSBC have "lost" some ...

There's another topic with all the school names, but basically there are dozens of nurseries in Jumeirah and Bur Dubai, plus some in the Greens area near Emirates Mall. One thing on TV, a lot of TV over the internet is restricted, either by the UAE government (it also blocks things like Skype) or by the licensing agreements in the likes of the UK. On cost of living, some things are cheaper (local food/ produce, eating out, taxis, private schooling vs UK private sch...

It's a culture shock that's for sure.

Whereas well-spoken Brits tend to be more privelaged in the UK, I feel this is one area where they lose out to folks from the provinces. Their posh cries of "excuse me!" are no match for a good, "oooooiiii, bawbag, back o the line"!
