For Dubai drivers in the rain - public service announcement

OK, coming from a country in which it pours it down most of the time it's been a shock to me as to just how bad driving in the rain is here. I know it's normally sunny 364 days of the year, but it's still no excuse for the utterely pathetic driving I've seen when it rains here. Having watched some m...

Welcome to driving in Dubai. Hazard lights are the best, but, I ranted about this a while ago when we had fog, however, after looking at the FAQ's on Abu Dhabi police website, they actually tell you to put your hazard lights on! WTF. Yes, that was the other part of genius this morning, people drivi...

It's very little to do with disposable cash. Disposable cash is only useful for a stock market to sustain stock prices above what they are worth - as happened last year. The reason the stock market hasn't recovered to last year's levels is that the stocks weren't worth that much. Stocks are prices e...

I also got married but had been engaged for 4 years so about time some would say! I think as long as you put everything (rent, bills etc.) in your name it will largely go unnoticed for such a short space of time. The only issue would be that your girlfriend would have to come on her own work visa wh...

In the UK, the PC morons have gone bananas. I even read a story in a UK tabloid called 'Ding Dong Merriyl Dubai' where they pointed out that people can celebrate Christmas in public and openly even in the UAE. Whereas in the UK all public christmas displays are being banned, even religious christma...

I don't want American soldiers to die out of cruelty, or because they're all bad people who deserve it (which, maybe they are and do) I want them to die so they can't kill any Iraqi soldiers, guerrillas or civilians. It would be almost politically suicidal for members of Congress to espouse a balanced position between Israel and Palestine, to suggest that Israel comply with international law or to speak in defense of justice or human rights for Palestinians. Therein lies the problems in of American democracy, b...

Yes you can board too.

As for differences, not surprisingly, doing any sport when it's hot is extremely exhausting, and doing indoor sport is always in air conditioning so you also end up really dehydrated.

Scot, you don't get it do you? Iraq is refusing to be the colony of the US/UK. So why don't they take their oil and leave? Oh, but they're not there for the oil, they're there to spread democracy (hahaha). Well guess what? The democratic consensus says: Invaders Go Home. We don't want them to be a ...

The only unanswered question is what triggered the big bang in the very first nanosecond. Various religions lay claim knowing the answer, scientists are working ever closer back to the moment and will probably disprove many religious theories in the future. Everything else from that moment can be ex...

Yes the UK has contributed to global endeavour. But the Scots, Welsh and Irish fought and got their own Governments, isn't about time the English had the same right? Agree, you can get more for an investment company but depends what level you're at. 17k equates to say about 2400 pounds a month, your rent will take 1000 of that, your school fees another 400-500. Not a lot left! Bear in mind also that, depending what your wife does and wants to do out here, she ma...
