I believe VKool makes a big deal out of their film not blocking GPS/phone signals. That would mean it has no metal, and Salik would/should be okay too. Although RTA does say to make a hole in your tint.

Anyone have those year-long RTA parking cards? They bend, melt and burn black in only six months. After it becomes unreadable, I put a message on my glass with the expiry date, so I dont get fined.

Salik tag is different, though it is hard to believe it will last the lifetime of the glass.

Yes. With fees. Thanks gtmash, just for the info of others...I cashed in the check at HSBC at Jebel Ali branch and they told me it would take 4-6 weeks to process it. At the moment I don't care too much. okay for me now, but I can imagine it could be something to consider for others if you need the...

Thank you all for your input. I think I was prepared to take the risk of fees going up if that's the only risk there is. I guess I'll just have to take it and hang on to my cash at this stage. After all I am only doing the land registery dept a favour as they must be working day and night at the mo...

Re: Irish cost of living VS. Dubai

Hi everybody! Just some quick questions to see if there are any people from Ireland out there. I'm currently contemplating entering negotiatons with my employer to move to Dubai for (at least) several years. I've had a look on some jobsites and I've noticed that the salaries seem to be significantl...

oops that sounds quite unfair to me . I'd be really pissed off if I pay the fees now and they come down in the future . I think the effect would be much worst than seeing them go up in the future. Anyway, it makes me more hopeful though . Thanks gtmash The way it has been for me, I think "they...

What corners do you manage to cut? It is a big decision for people to move here, and I feel too many people are 'shot down' on DF for asking questions over European packages. Really 300K + housing isn't that amazing, if you want to maintain the same lifestyle as London for instance. To live in a de...

Re: Banking Question

In England it is possible to get a Bankers Draft. Its a cheque drawing on the banks funds rather than an account. The bank takes the funds from your account when issuing it. Is there an equivalent in Dubai banking? when I called my bank (not one of the best) they were talking about a Demand Draft, ...

No, just a donut would be fine.

For a donut, take a powerful rear-wheel-drive car, floor the accelerator pedal and yank the steering wheel all the way in one direction.

I have a place at IC. Hidden fees are a given. Although some greedy building owners add their own "administrative" fees, there are many, including mine, who don't charge a dime over what Nakheel wants.

why don't you just buy one here? Cars are so cheap and your US model won't be Gulf Spec Yep. Although there is a ministry-of-something fee that you can pay to make your car magically GCC-spec. Dhs 330 turned my Japan-spec into GCC-spec. But I let some agency handle my paperwork. I couldn't be bothe...

maybe - but we do have a thorough testing process - hence we able to otain a UAE license without any lessons. Mike kiwi is obviously working in dollars and annual rather than monthly. BTW a more accurate Poll would include Less then 4,000. 4001 to 7000. 7001 to 15000, 15001 to 20,000 and then the above levels. As many expats from non-western countries fall into these brackets. That is correct. Dhs 5k and D...
