How will Obama's presidency effect the UAE? Nov 05, 2008
So, I've been keeping up with all the news recently about the US elections, and as you know, Obama has been announced the winner today.

My question is this: How do you think an Obama presidency will effect the Middle-East, more specifically, the UAE? Will relations between our two nations be strengthened?

I'd like your opinions.

US/UAE links have always been strong, but I don't think it will affect it too much in the short term. As he gets his feet under the Oval Office desk and starts to get to grips with the crap left by the Bush administration, I am sure there will be improvements. The first should be a strengthening of the US$ which will finally make the Dirham a currency worth having again.

The UAE is possibly one of the least pressing of his tasks at this time and the relationship with the Gulf States as a whole will be more on his agenda, particularly with the Saudis, as the oil must flow and the weapons must be delivered.

He needs to look closer to home policies first, then the situation in Iraq. I would not be surprised if we don't see a pull out of at least some forces there as it will support the policies he got elected on. Don't expect a break down in the relationship with Israel as that goes too deeply into the US political, financial and powerplay infrastructure.

In the long term it will be interesting to see the relationship between Obama and Brown as he is just a simpering idiot and Obama may slip into the Bush/Blair scenario with Brown jumping at his beck and call.

We are watching the developments with interest!
