I know, and how sad is that. BUT will it actually make a difference?

There are already laws regarding phone use whilst driving - it incurs a 5,000 Dhs fine! BUT as always isn't enforced.

I'm refering to "Very strict" fines, such as holding your car for 30-60 days, with 30,000 AED fine
Its just rumors so far, and not sure if its ever going to be set.

Well if you're dead then they get to keep the car and forfeit the fine.

There are also seat belt laws, and I see alot of people ignoring that one. There is also a law about properly buckling up children in car seats, but I still see children sitting on mommy's lap or between driver and passenger or jumping around in the back seat.

What would be the best way to spread strong awareness message to people on how to approach a better practise for proper safe driving?

In the states there is a 6 hour madatory driving class before you get your license. You get to see the results of car accidents and how they came about, mostly due to careless driving as well as the lack of using seatbelts and failure to ensure the safety of children.

Maybe if everyone here, including those who already have a driving license, sat through a 2 hour course and saw the photos of the wreckage and death something might register.

Even better, if we have an annual national awareness campaign with regard to this matter, specially in a country like the UAE where we -unfortunately- got a lot of careless drivers out there.

While driving in Spain, I was impressed with how people were generally in total compliance, I mean I never faced issues with crazy drivers on the highways and even in the city.

In fact most would get their kicks from it.
Remember that this is a place where they stop to take photos of people in car crashes and then email them to everyone.
The local newspapers also publicise the same pictures.

Eliminate corruption and preferential treatment period.
