Expired residence visa, still need to cancel? Sep 25, 2009
Do we still need to cancel the residence visa (from previous sponsor) if it has been expired (either within grace period of 30 days after expiration, or beyond that regardless of overstaying fines) and not renewed, in order to have a new one (new job/sponsor or opening a company)?

Logically if the visa expires by virtue of time (having lived elwhere more than 6 months) then it would get automatically cancelled. Unfortunately logic has yet to arrive in the UAE so you would have to cancel the old visa before getting a new one by a new employer.

Expire and cancel are not synonyms.
