I had a couple of days to dilly dally the last time I was there. The places I would recommend are:

Kunsthaus Wien Museum (VERY IMPORTANT!!) lovely coffee shop as well! Its featured in "1000 Places to Visit Before you Die"

Schonbrunn Museum

St Stephen's Cathedral in the city center ... the city center is a lovely place to walk around and just take in the scenery as well
Schonbrunn Zoo - (zoo fanatic here! but couldn't make it there cause it was snowing)
And if you're into philharmonic or Mozart etc then look up the Vienna Opera House, they have a regular line up of events.

Just get a map of the train stations, they usually have all the above places marked in. Very easy to get around and the taxis aren't that expensive either. Make sure you always have a rail pass though. I let mine expire, cause no one ever really checked anyway, and the police was doing spot checks and I got ticketed for about 130 euros.

Yeah.....actually I got the name of the hotel wrong, which is why you couldn't find it: its the Parkhotel Schonbrunn
Its right across the street from palace itself

The city center can be reached in 8 minutes by underground

The only problem with using the underground is that you have to remember the names of the stations:
Guddenshitznpisinhof

By the time you read the name of the station, the train has already left

Vienna is a romantic city which is not as hyped as Paris. Lots of musuems and i noticed the prices to be very reasonable making it a good place to get some bargains.

I stayed at the intercontinental which was pretty good although a bit old. If you are there for a short stay like i was i would recommend the Hilton since it is closer to the train station that takes you right to the airport.

Again the cathedral in vienna is pretty cool:

And the area around it (Stephensplatz) is full of retail outlets and restaurants. Its good to note that on weekends no one checks your Metro pass so if you are in Vienna for the weekend dont bother buying a day pass for the Metro. The Metro itself is great with frequent trains and will take you all around the city.

Also something you should not miss on doing is checking out Cafe Demel and having a sacher torte or any of the other yummy pastries they have at the place.

In a nutshell vienna is a nice quiet city ideal for a romantic getway with your signficant other (and not a business trip with your coworker )
