Help with tips on speeding up the recruitment process! PLS Jun 15, 2007
Hi everyone

My fiance and I made the decision to relocate to Dubai in April.... (having visited to Dubai on many, many ocassions over the last 7 years)!

Our contracts in the UK come to an end soon, so we have actively been registering with as many recruitment agencies for the UAE as possible.

We both have strong experience in our own fields.
My background is marketing, sales and retail and my fiance has been MD for several retail and home improvement companies.

But are getting very limited feedback from the agencies.

Anyone got any ideas of how we can speed up this process??

Desperately keen to get things 'rocking and rolling' .... sunnies at the ready!

Happy to forward CV'S etc if anyone thinks they may be able to help!

be careful using recruitment agencies. there is a list posted on the forum (not exactly sure where - check the search function) of reputable agencies; there are plenty of scam artists around. don't pay any of the agencies, the recruitment costs are for the employers account... if they ask for a "processing fee" - run.

i'd suggest that you get on-line, there are a few dubai/ uae yellow pages. short list companies (in your field) that you would consider working for - most of them will have a link to a web page. if you don't know the company by reputation then check them out. forward your cv directly to prospective employers.

the easiest way to get employement here is to visit, try and set up some appointments during that time, and cold-call the rest. it will also give you a better idea of the place and what to expect

DBXSOUL,
the reason I ask is that I did try to call them a few months ago after seening a number of "GHOST" jobs listed on their website.
And unfortunately recieved a very rude response from them :-(
seems like that "R" word has become a very common occurance for me since i moved back from the USA.

Maybe its just because of my location Pakistan.

Anyway, I went to thier website and resubmitted my resume to all jobs I do totally qualify for.

Hello xx

Had a bad/disappointing day!

Been to a career agency today and I think i've been taken for an idiot!

I went last week to an agency that believed with my profile they would be able to assist with finding me a great job in Dubai.
The first meeting was fantastic. We got on well. the guy was very positive, seemed to know his stuff and I left feeling excited and inspired.
The gentleman invited me back as he wanted some time to speak to his contacts in Dubai.

I went back today - got the results of my psycho-metric tests etc. He declared that he had spoken to his contacts and believed he could place me in 'my dream Dubai job' BUT, that I needed a new, more desciptive CV, some interview coaching..... basically to polish off the edges etc!!!

He then landed me with a contract - asking for £4,000 + VAT and basically promising me nothing!

I just don't believe this can be genuine!

I actually feel really let down and angry.... what a waste of time and energy and I am no closer to achieving my goal!

OOOOOW! Frustrated!!

oh the MONEY came in after he had WASTED SO MUCH of your TIME!!!
I just hate it when people do things like that.
Same thing happened to me recently when i was looking for some funding for a BUSINESS PLAN and IDEA I have been working on.
this company in FRANCE kept calling me and talking to me.. when I showed interest after the 10th time they came up with a FEE.

Do not give up and keep trying you.. :-)

Thank you!

Have had a quick look at what you recommended. There are a couple I haven't tried, so will get onto them tomorrow!

Question: Do you know of any Executive Professional - Head Hunter companies. You know the ones where you tell them all about yourself and they approach their contacts on your behalf???

Thanks to all you guys for your help, as always!

Back on the 'get a job in Dubai' campaign tomorrow!

Wish me luck xx

internet job search does not work Jul 03, 2007
Searching for a job in Dubai is not like searching a job in Europe. I have applied for so many jobs via internet sites and NO reply, not even a confirmation. So, I guess you have to call, call, call and meet as many as possible new people. Get the word around I am searching for a Job. Newtworking is the answer.

Sounds like at least a visit is worthwhile. Add an extra pinch of salt to any Dubai promises and you should be fine :).

Good luck guys. Last week I got a call from a agency called Distinctive Choice. Can't say if they are a scam but they asked me for Dhs 100 as a membership fee and no promises.
???!
Maybe its a good way to make quick money?

BTW its illegal. Check this Ministry of Labour link :
