Thinking of going to Oman soon, what's the deal with getting a visa for a day or so?

I will in about 5 days, give or take 5 days.

Otherwise, if it doesn't come through in that time, what then?

I know that you can get a visa on the border if you are holding a valid UAE residence, if not you would probably have to apply at the Oman Embassy.

Maybe others would know better.

Depends on your nationality. With my Canadian passport, I just need to show up at the border, regardless of UAE residency or not, and I automatically can cross the border.

Royal Oman Police site ...

May not be up to date - I don't think you can get multiple entry visas any more for example.

Thank you.

It seems Australians get special privileges, not only do we get a visa on arrival, but we're allowed a free use of a donkey for the visit.

Sucks to be Canadian :)

If you are an EU passport holder you just turn up at the border, fill in the little visa card and car card. You will pay to exit the UAE, get an exit stamp, then at the Oman side pay a little more and get an Oman entry stamp.

It's cheaper for those with a residency visa than it is for those with just a visit visa but I think the maximum our friends paid was about 100 Dhs in total.

If you go over at the weekend expect it to be very buisy and to have to queue for a while.
