I cannot take part in this poll because you have omitted the one value in life so many of do not consider and take for granted until its too late.

GOOD HEALTH

Having experienced coming very close to having my own life taken away 3 years ago, none of your options come close to valueing the greatest gift in life itself, and without that, the rest become irrelevant.

It doesn't matter how much money you have ,how many loved ones you have, how many adventures you have, how good a job you have. All of this can be taken away from us in an instant.

Hmm, you are SO RIGHT. Because its my #1 too!!!! LOL!!! I was at school when submitted this I wasnt done. How do I delete a post??

what happened?...or is it too personal?

Its ok Cons its not overly personal.

I was being incorrectly treated for Chrones, anyway to cut a long story short i was in hospital Xmas eve 2002 and the let me out to travel so that i could take the kids skiing in New Hampshire.

Anyways they gave me steriods which they said you'll be fine blah blah, so so 2 days after xmas i went. All the week there i was still very ill and living on liquid food (and previous 4 months).

So on way back to UK i became very ill on the flight, they had yo put me in a bed in 1st class and i was met from the plane by medical etc and rushed to hospital.

What had happened, because the steriods fuked up what little immunve system i had, the change of pressure in the plane had caused my bladder and bowel to burst, and i had a double peritanitus.

I didnt have Chrones at all it transpired, they operated and took away most of my upper bowel (intestines) and after that lets just say i didnt have to use the toilet for the next 6 months.

I am very lucky and thank god that i am alive, it has changed my outlook and total perspective on life.

Dont delete the post , it has created a alternative discussion, which i hope now will give other Forumer's here something to think about and hopefully revalue their priorities.

I hope my words may have had some impact for others here, especially the younger ones.

It takes a life threatening incident such as this to make us realise how fragile our grip on life can be. If this happens, then I find the person tends to have a much more open and relaxed attitude to the life we have. Things that some people think are important...simply aren't, and we are more open to 'living' as opposed to merely 'existing'.

My epiphany came at a very early age, so I have been lucky enough to spend most of my life 'living'. Sympathise with you Arnie, had a chunk of my liver, duodenum, bile duct and gall bladder removed after it was ruptured, so experienced the pain of a digestive system re-boot!

man that is indeed really bad and horrific thing to go thru...hope all is fine now...yes it does indeed give me a thing or 2 to think about....personally my downfall is smoking...hmmm!!...good health for me is very important...as the older i get the more i am reminded of my mortality...doesnt change the outlook inside that i wish i could and will forever...the worst thing that i can imagine for myself is being dependent on someone when i am old...health i agree is number one on my wish list or so it should be

Cons you made me laugh about smoking. I can remember when i was in hosi for 3 weeks, the doc and nurses nagged about how much i smoked. I used to just say " nahhhhhhh it wasnt the fags that nearly killed me, so wheel me down for another one will ya"

The only results now are the fact i cannot eat very much because most of my inside is gone, and alcohol tends to make me ill because i dont have enough left inside to process it.

But i love me ciggies. So carry on smoking Cons, it may not be the fags that'll get you.

As for the fags...bring 'em on! I remember being carried away from my 'nasty' and actually having scrounging a fag from one of the medical guys. I thought that if I didn't make it, I may as well go out with a nicotine rush!

we have had this con before, but last time i didnt go into detail re its origins.

The word/term FAG eminates from the very old public schools in England like Eton dating from the 1800/1900's.

A fag was the new entrant school boy in his first year that had to "serve the elders". The would cook fetch carry and cook for the eldest boys in the school.

The term Fag eminated from the young boys having to even light their cigarettes.

The word FAGGOT is a old name for a meatball and is still used today in our Supermarkets and Butcher shops.

The term Faggot was a recent adoption by the american to describe a "gay person".

As an Englishman in some aspects i treat the American use of our language with some contempt. If you note MS use 2 versions of UK and US Eng in MS Word.

Another example is the term BUTT. We use the word in its original meaning which the end of a cigaratte with the filter. Its called a "butt". The Americans use it to describe a "rear end" as in bum.

In addition they cannot spell. We spell Colour they spell it Color.

Hope this explains things more clearly.

Its only because they kicked us out of their country before we could fully educate them!

And why do the Americans insist on using Z's instead of S's?? One of my big pet hates!

But going back to the original conversation - I've not really had any near death experience, but I was once driving home form work and had some terrible pains in my chest. I decided to go on a mega diet, joined a gym and got really fit (even did a half-marathon, to the amazement of most of my friends!). Unfortunately the wheels fell off when I had an operation on my foot.
As for the pains - turns out it was the seat in my car - when I changed cars, the pains went away!!!

It was indeed:

1. Getting fit and running half marathons ends up in hospital and having operations. Its silly! Don't do it!

2. Don't buy crappy German cars cos they give you pains in the chest and the wallet!
