Dubai Vs Kuala Lumpur

Dubai vs Kuala lumpur Mar 26, 2009
Hey there...
I'm a guy who has been in love with Dubai since I first got to the beautiful city.

Recently due to personal issues I had to shift off to Kuala Lumpur for some time. For any one who wishes to compare the two places I have posted a blog on my blog at blogspot. naqviworld.blogspot

But the jest of the discussion is in the list which I made comparing the two cities so here it is.

Dubai (good)
1-The road map is immaculate and one can never get lost in Dubai.
2-Phenominal shopping, one would find gorgeous shopping malls throughout the city with all kinds of stores at reasonable prices.
3-The fantastic cuisines ranging from Indian to Italian and French to Chinese.
4-Without a doubt, the best 5 star hotels of the world with breathtaking interior and ext design.
5-In general a very luxurious lifestyle which one may not lead in ones own home country.

Dubai (bad)

1-Sky rocketing rentals in comparison to the general local income.
2-Speeding cameras throughout the city sometimes 2-3 within 400 meters.
3-A rather materialistic society in general where one has to spend handsome somes of money if one wishes to keep up with the culture.
4-Terrible traffic jams starting from Sheikh Zayed to Emirates Road.
5-Unless one earns a reasonable amount of money, not a good place to save money.

Kuala Lumpur (good)
1-Shockingly cheap, whether its property, dining out or commuting from one place to another.
2-A far better public transport system than Dubai, for one doesn't really need a car in KL.
3-Great cuisines, and such international franchises which are not available in Dubai.
4-In my opinion the best place in the world to save money, because like I stated earlier THIS PLACE IS EXTREMELY CHEAP.
5-Great shopping, there is nothing which one would not find in this city.

Kuala Lumpur (bad)
1-The city is very dirty with trash on the streets in fungus on the buildings.
2-All shops close down at 10 and some malls close at 8.
3-Security is not up to the mark like it is in neighbouring Singapore.
4-People in general are rude, quick to judge and get offended rather easily.
5-Where there is public transport, it gets a bit confusing between different types of trains (LRT, Monorail) because within the city some areas have either one station and each type of train has a different route and of over 30 stops connects at only 3.

Hope I was able to help anyone out there.

Peace

Not sure how it is now, but I remember KL from the early 1990's.
It was developing fast and I recall watching the growth of the Petronas Towers over many visits, thinking this was the future.
There is definitely more indigenous culture there than Dubai and the shopping was definitely on a par, particularly the markets in Petaling Jaya which were very like Karama or the PatPong region of Bangkok.
Traffic was bearable but it takes longer to get anywhere because the city is spread out over a very large area and there were few major highways when I was last there. The trip in from the airport at Subang used to take over an hour.
A must see is the Dataran Merdeka, the original town square, next to the sultan's palace. It is now dwarfed by massive concrete and glass buildings as it sits in the middle of the commercial district. One side has a traditional English half timbered building and is the home of the Selangor Cricket Club. Matches are still played on the green!

Outside the developing business and commerce areas, the city was very dirty and seemingly poverty stricken and I assume there are still places like that now?

Get outside the city and the real culture comes through. A quick trip to the Royal Selangor Yacht club in Kelang and you are in another world! The local food is fantastic and the people warm and friendly. Expansive plantations of oil palm and bananas, monkeys playing in the tree-tops, lush greenery all around.

Go even further afield to Penang or Langkawi and it is a holiday paradise. The Cameron Heights are amazing and even Johor Baru in the south has its attractions.

Malaysia is a beautiful country but KL is commercially still behind Dubai in some ways.

I should re-visit and see how it has changed.

People dont get offended in KL any faster than they get offended in Dubai....

Nor are KL'ers "quick to judge" when you compare them to Dubaians.

KL is definitely more relaxed than Dubai....

anaqvi86 , wow amazing comparison thanks.

Disagree to one point though, Speeding cameras are a safety must... I would imagine the roads in Dubai unsafe if it wasn't for the speeding cameras... this is a good point, not a bad point
