I think they are trying to see how far they can take it before people finally say screw it, lets get outta here. A sizable amount of population has already reached that point.

Surprinsly the tourist season is doing very well this year after a two year lull. And as always some bright sparkmust have thought all this money going into the hands of private individuals and the govt doesn't gets any(tax)thing from it. Ban it and force people to spend money at places where it will go into the right pockets.

As always there is never any reason given or some ridiculas spin like because its good for you ?

Ah don't worry about those clowns in their white X-trails just stay away from Aweer and the DDCR and the few regular weekend hot spots. Even if your two dunes behind and there isn't an easy track to reach your spot they can't get to you.

Why do you think they hearded all the tour operators camp sites into Aweer, so its easier to keep an eye on them. When I was working out camp was a little off the beaten path ( as off the path you can get when talking in desert terms ! ) and would never be bothered by them, simply because they could not get to us, they knew exactly where the camp was as it was registered with the DTCM but their little X-trails couldn't get to us. In the end to help with logistics for a big event a track had to be bulldozed it was only then that they started paying us visits.

A reason ? do you need a reason to stop hundreds of drunk westerns form being in the desert alone unsupervised ? no really ?

And these so called "drunk westerners" are supervised in the city ? Do they get police escort till the house after the parties are over ?

BTW there are probably more drunk emaratis in the desert than westerners at any given time. I have personally come across two emarati guys and two East European "rent a girl friend"s, bottles and cans scattered all over the place, they were brought mostly likely dragged out for a good time and the idot managed to get himself stuck and ended up spending the night and most of the morning there. A dune away was one of his mates who he had called for help and he too got stuck and worried sick as it was his fathers new Land Cruiser he had snuck out at night to help out his bud.

Not to mention the time when looking for fire wood at night chanced upon two emarati dudes one bent over the hood of his Patrol and the other......... well I'll leave that to you imagination, after all those years I'm still trying to get that image out of my head !!!

From the jist of the article seems like its only for tour operators and commercial gatherings. I think a little private camp out should'nt be a bother at all. Make you sure you invite some of your local friends as they can handle booze much better than you lot, plus you'll need someone to drive you home next morning too !
