UAE Rains - 27 Feb 2010 Feb 27, 2010
As predicted by the weather man, the thunder showers did arrive in UAE, but no one expected them to be so disastrous. Some of the key highlights/rumors so far are: -

- Meadows road blocked- cars jammed
- MOE Parking lot flooded
- Dubai Mall GF Flooded- Leaks Spotted midsts of the mall

Check out the pics and videos here..

There was chaos at Global vilage last night.

It rained very heaviliy for around 20 minutes, and once it ended, the whole area was evacuated. You can imagine the situation when there are 2 major exits and roughly 10,000 cars trying to leave the place all at once!
There was 6 inches of water at a number of places inside the village,

There were many ambulances at one of the entrances so something bad may have happened as well.

I read on Gulf News website that part of the Indian Pavillion had collapsed, and at least one person has been killed and several injured.

I must admit i have only been there once, and i was surprised by the temporary nature of the buildings - they appear to be just Plywood shells in places. I expected something a bit more "permanent"....

Rain at night is just lovely....Too bad from all the damage...But on the other hand perfect photography weather.

Tried to catch a strike on the Burj Khalifa, but not a single one...So maybe it is true about this special anti-lightning system they have installed.

Just imagine the flood damage to building foundations and shops etc. Still can't believe there is no decent drainage. :o

The meteorological office in Dubai has issued a severe weather warning for Dubai today from 6pm onwards. This probably does not happen so often in this rather calm region (weather-wise).
“From this evening onwards the weather will become unsettled with thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain, strong gusty winds and the possibility of hail,” the met office said in its warning. “Winds may gust to 40 knots (75km/h) with poor visibility and flooding, making driving conditions difficult. This unsettled weather will persist throughout Tuesday.”
A public weather warning was also issued for the northern Emirates warning of strong winds. The strange weather last weekend already killed 4 people in the UAE during thunderstorms and heavy rain.

3 more people were killed in Sharjah while just standing in water. They have been electrocuted. Another accident happened in Dubai’s Global Village when an entrance collapsed, killing one and injuring 13 more. So you better take that weather warning for Dubai serious…

Considering that most buildings (High Rise) are Piled down to Rock which is below the existing water table this is not a particular problem.

Anyone who has lived in this part of the world for any reasonable time will be well used to these events. We obviously do not enjoy them, but they actually only last for a couple of days.
