Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Wednesday affirmed his support for freedom of the press, while urging journalists to exercise integrity and objectivity in their reporting.

He also called for “responsible press freedom”, which should not be influenced by personal interests. “A journalist is the nation’s conscience and the voice of the community,” he said during a meeting with the chairman and members of the Arab Journalism Award in its 8th edition.

Shaikh Mohammad urged journalists to avoid negative reporting, pointing out that “if a journalist betrays his conscious he would be betraying his nation”.

He stressed the important role of journalists, writers and poets as a mirror of the society that reflects the civilisation and culture of the nation.

“We support these people to raise the standard of the society’s cultural awareness and boost the culture of reading and knowledge in all fields,” he said.

He highlighted the importance of investing in human capital, which he said is the main pillar of the state as well as “the source of our pride”.

“We can easily build malls and towers, but it is difficult to build the human resources without a vision and plans that guide such investment.”

What a load of crap, free press indeed, in particular........

God, I'm sorry to keep saying it but you're an idiot. BBC and CNN never report anything against their respective governments eh? Do you really believe that or do you just say it at parties to sounds edgy?

wasn't it obvious before ?!

His Highness ..... Ruler of Dubai just emphasized it again in a "good" way.

rudeboy is also right abt cnn and bbc. but as usual, he is rude and non-respecting again just like people in this part of the world, though not expecting anything better.

well, the point is one should refrain from pointing out facts if that's going to be "negative" to HEAR or he/she will be considered as "traitor".
