That's because you'd need a magnifying glass.

Couldn't you find any smaller pictures Sage?

Yeah, sorry, my fault guys.
I asked Sage & Onion to help me upload these as I'm a wide-eyed Noob!
I sent these tiny ones so as not to clog up the forum with big fat Jpegs. I'll see if I can upload them again now slightly larger so you can see how it used to be!

Cheers

I am here since 1981. I don't ever remember Dubai as being barren. Less traffic though. And more free parking.

Not so much of that in Dubai Deniz, Dubai is about Trade & Business and the courage to go forward with your vision.

No way the first picture to have been taken in 1991.
:!: I come here at first in 1992 and SZR was much more developped that it is on the picture.

Maybe even earlier, let's say in the early seventies.
If you check the details on the bigger image neither Jumeirah houses are exsistent nor the villas behind the Trade Center on the smaller pictures

World Trade Centre Building was completed in 1978 and it looks like the photoes are taken frome there. The Apartments came a couple of years later so I think 1982 looks a reasonable bet.

I still think up till late 90s most of the towers on SZR did not exist.

The Crown Plaza opened in the first quarter of 1994, but there are already between 10 to 20 buildings from the same side of the road, not so deserted as in the picture.

LOL!

Without oil Dubai would still be a fisher- and pearl-diver-village :)
Of course there is courage and vision now, but the source of all that wealth is oil and maybe also gas.
