Pretty weak line up overall but Iron Maiden and The Prodigy worth the admission on their own. Saw Prodigy twice in their late 90s heyday and they were phenomenal.

AUS the only real half decent uni around here but in a crap location. American Uni of Dubai not that well regarded but you'll have a better social life.

Depends what you want from your time here really.

Can't the company you work for do it? Mine processes it for those in need and just charges the visa fees to the employees.

Everything you need is here, can be expensive though. Pretty much everything your child would have got anyway in a 1st world country is needed - tetanus, whooping cough, meningitis and polio off the top of my head. Think they also need to get Hepititis B or C (don't know the difference!) here, parti...

London Business School setting up in Dubai this year for an EMBA programme. Heard someone mention INSEAD, possibly in Abu Dhabi? Below that, you have a selection of OK schools like Heriott Watt which is linked to Edinburgh Business School. On the topic of recognised unis, the names of those unis (ap...

MMR doesn't cause autism. The team that announced it to the world and caused such as stir then had to retract it (which the media roundly failed to report) after they found their research was flawed. Depending on the school/ nursery, they will insist on certain vaccines before entry but I don't thin...

Ikea! There's loads of stores but a lot of the Arabian style furniture tends to be expensive. Takes 3-4 days to get delivery once you're out here. Go to the Mall of the Emirates or somewhere to start, they have upmarket stores like Marina or pretty average but durable stuff like the Home Centre I th...

Yes, the head of Etisilat recently said they were fighting a "losing war" with VOIP as it was the medium of the future but as usual all he said to "fix" this was that they would launch VOIP at some point in the future. It will be legal within the UAE on their service, but of cour...

Good stuff. I hate to be a "wet blanket" but Google Earth already does that. Although, as of now not for Dubai as it is to be built but... Google Earth is good but not that good. Few other developments coming online may change it a bit but not fundamentally. Surely the Palms will have sun...

It's shockingly low, you won't be able to live a decent life unless you can share rent. I work in management consulting, PM me if you want some info on companies and the market here. Draw I think, though with all Chelsea's injuries and suspensions they're not guaranteed a result this weekend either. Man U will still win the league though and deservedly so this season.

OK, got you. This is UAE law and is standard. It builds up over time and is effectively free money when you leave, don't complain. I worked 6 years in the UK and got nothing when I left, it's all relative.

Cosy!

You'll get nowhere near DIC for that so wherever you stay will be a commute. Almost as well staying on the edge of Abu Dhabi.

But Big 4 charge grads out at $1000+ a day, that's the difference to any other job. Sure, you can't expect the high life straight away, but something in line with what value you bring a company can be expected.

Not being funny, you'd have to have a death wish to ride one of those here. Most of the drivers can't even see big 2 ton 4x4s in their mirrors and cut them up without indicating. Add to that, people often ignore road markings, use hard shoulder and just generally do anything they can to get one car ...

Would doubt they care unless you want office space, which you clearly don't. Only possible restriction on your business is that parts of the internet are censored here, you'll need to buy a place in an internet free zone (e.g. Dubai Marina) to be sure. That said, it's the usual stuff like gambling, ...

Now a bit of politics - a common misconception is that the economies of the G7 is a 'free market' model - when actually they are based on 'financial capitalism' which is not inherently just as it penalises the poor and inherently makes the rich richer and keeps the poor poorer. That is why there is...
