Do you think we'll have a problem with finding a place in late Jan when we arrive? Can we generally move in wi...

Question about spouse visa

My husband is due to start work in Dubai mid Jan, but for my work reasons I'm unable to come with him straight away.

Do I need to go with him to get my spouse visa, or can I come say, a month later?
Are there rules around this?

Thanks!

I'm a fairly seasoned snowboarder (have done numerous o/s trips etc) and just HAD to try out ski dubai when we arrived. I think its fantastic for beginners, practise, excercise etc, but does get a bit boring as its fairly short, flat & not too challenging - i wouldnt expect anything more from an...

Im originally from Sydney, and have been in Dubai a month and loving it. To be honest, I feel much safer here, you don't generally see or hear about a lot of crime. The only real shock is not so much the traffic, just the erratic driving. But you get used to it, and as they say when in Rome... My +1...

admcau, I would agree with everyone else that 30K aed p/m is a good base (we earn more). But definitely aim for higher if you really want a good lifestyle. True what benwj has said - money really can buy you happiness here! So, have you actually decided to move here yet? I suggest you get here befor...

Thanks guys Will look into all of the above The other alternative of course is to subscribe to Motogp.com and watch the races from the net. Although, they only show it live (from what I know) and you can't replay them. I found a pub the other day that aired the World Superbikes in Losail live. I thi...

Actually, we went to Fibber's on Saturday to watch the motoGP. They changed the channel for us (I think it was Al Jazeera) and we got to watch the 250's & Motogp races. Then promptly at 5.30pm, they switched it back to the rugby! At least they let us watch it.... :D The sunday races will be a pa...

The filter that's there at the moment is a Hydor..some italian brand... Actually, the cleaner did attack the tank with some jif last week and cleaned it, but he seems to have done something to the filter and now the air isn't circulating properly and the filter makes a weird gurgling noise :?...

You'll find that most apartments will have white goods, and villas won't.
Look in the papers though, I've come across a few fully furnished places. It all depends on whethere you actually like the furnished style or not :)

visa to oman

Just booked a little mini break to muscat for hubby's 30th. We have Aussie passports and have our UAE residency - do we need a visa to go to Oman? We're coming in by plane (not driving).
Do we need a visa for any GCC/middle east country for that matter?

Your advice please :)

We came over with 3 pieces of luggage and slowly we're getting there with furnishings etc. We still have our snowboards back in Sydney, we wont send them over until we really need it. You don't need it at Ski...

Ok, for pro's and cons, the only cons are that yes, its expensive, but i think it will hold its value. Other con is that its not a family car - in fact its only made to really seat 2 people as there is absolutely no room in the back seat. Doesnt bother me too much as I'm the only one driving it, so ...

Your company should be able to provide the cheques for you, and they take out the rental amount from your pay every month. Ask if this is an option. That way, you don't have to part with all the money at one go.

Also try second hand. There are sites like dubizzle, souq etc and also this site that have alot of second hand stuff from expats who've only been here a year, so the stuff is pretty much brand new + its cheaper.

That's a good package. Will your wife be working too?

A 1Br at the Marina is not 100K, its more like 120-130K these days.

And yes, this 'others' allowance is interesting!

This is a good package. Are you on your own? with family & kids? If with family & kids, it may not be sufficient. First 8 weeks accomm. paid for is pretty generous! We only got 2 weeks. If you have a family, you should negotiate for more (i.e. childrens schooling). Also, is medical & a t...

You can also glacier ski at a few resorts during the summer...i.e. Tignes and Saas Fee. In the southern hemisphere, there is Australia & NZ too during their winter season in June-Sept (although I can vouch for a fact that the snow quality isn't too great!)

Springs/Greens you're looking at around 90k-140 for the year. Obviously less if you can find one that is short term 6 months rental. If you are working in either DMC or Deira, you're opposit the traffic flow both ways. Bur Dubai is cheap, but if you're in DMC, you'll be with the traffic on SZR. Othe...

Erm it's normally around 450 Dhs a month and of course you have the joining fees etc. But much of the time they have special offers where they reduce the joining fees and monthly rates. The best bet is to go look at the new one in the Burjuman, as it's nearly finished, they still have their founder...
