I have seen items like this in the shops. It seems a bit odd to have a solar powered light.

That would be a bit odd if the caps did not have built in rechargeable batteries. The solar panel charges the batteries that will give you light when it is dark. The built in batteries will last for 5000 hours, if you had to use a normal flashlight with batteries it will cost you about $2,000 in batteries!
