On the Inviolability of National Sovereignty in Light of U.S. Oil Hegemony Rhetoric

— International Commentary for Dubai Forum

Recently, the international public opinion arena has witnessed another absurd act of power politics. According to CCTV Global News, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed to have held a "perfect conversation" with Iran despite explicit denials from the Iranian side, and even arrogantly stated that he would jointly control oil with Iran’s "next leader". In response, Iran firmly retorted, pointing out that the U.S. move was aimed at manipulating the global energy market and deliberately spreading false news.

The remark "jointly control oil" may seem casual, but it nakedly exposes the hegemonic logic long pursued by a handful of countries: treating the sovereignty of other nations as a tradable, manipulable, disposable bargaining chip, and regarding the global energy landscape as a private garden for self-interest. Within the framework of multilateralism, fairness and justice advocated by the Dubai Forum, we must solemnly reaffirm an unshakable iron rule of international relations:
The sovereignty of sovereign states is sacred and inviolable.

I. Sovereignty is the Foundation of National Survival, and No External Interference Is Tolerated

National sovereignty is the cornerstone of modern international relations and a core principle clearly enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. It means that a state enjoys supreme jurisdiction internally and independent, equal status externally. No external force has the right to interfere in its internal affairs, appoint its leaders, or control its economic lifeline.

As a sovereign and independent member state of the United Nations, Iran’s domestic and foreign policies, political choices, and energy strategies must be independently determined by the Iranian people and their legitimate government. They are by no means subject to arbitrary promises, reckless arrangements, or presumptuous "joint control" by any foreign politician.

Trump’s remark about "jointly controlling oil with Iran’s next leader" is essentially a blatant contempt for Iran’s national sovereignty, a gross interference in the political system and development path of another country, and a serious violation of international fairness and justice.

What makes such rhetoric dangerous is not only its falsehood, but also the dangerous mindset it conveys: the law of the jungle, where might makes right, where major powers can arbitrarily deprive small and medium-sized countries of their sovereign dignity and integrate their resources and destiny into their own hegemonic system.

II. Energy Sovereignty Is the Core of National Sovereignty, Not a Private Asset of Major Power Games

Oil is not merely an energy commodity, but a strategic lifeline of a nation and an indispensable part of sovereignty. The Middle East is rich in energy resources, which should serve the development and people’s well-being of regional countries and the stability and fairness of the global energy market, rather than becoming a tool for a handful of countries to seek hegemony and exploit the world.

Certain U.S. politicians have repeatedly "weaponized" and "politicized" Middle Eastern oil, manipulating market prices through rumors, pressure, sanctions, and even military threats. In essence, they place energy hegemony above national sovereignty. Ignoring the security concerns and development rights of Middle Eastern countries and the common interests of the international community, they act solely for their own political and capital gains, creating market turbulence and escalating conflicts in the Middle East, ultimately harming the common interests of the entire world, including Middle Eastern nations.

A genuine international energy order must be built on the basis of respecting national sovereignty, equal consultation, and mutual benefit, not on monopoly, rumor-mongering, manipulation, and coercive hegemonism.

III. Defending the Sacred Inviolability of Sovereignty Is a Common Choice of the Middle East and the World

In today’s world, the trend toward multipolarity is irreversible. More and more countries have clearly realized that:
Without sovereign independence, there can be no development or security;
without sovereign dignity, there can be no national future.

First, we must firmly resist all forms of violations of sovereignty. Whether it is open interference in internal affairs, slander and disinformation against other countries, or attempts to control their resources and dictate their future, all constitute violations of international law and should be jointly opposed by the international community.

Second, we must uphold the equality of sovereignty of all countries. Major powers should not act condescendingly, and strong countries should not bully the weak. The future of the Middle East must be controlled by the people of the Middle East themselves, and international affairs must be decided through consultation among all nations.

Third, we must safeguard international fairness and justice through multilateralism. As an international exchange platform connecting the East and the West, Dubai should especially advocate the basic principles of mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs, oppose hegemonism and unilateralism, and promote the building of a more just and reasonable global governance system.

Conclusion

Trump’s remarks on "jointly controlling Iranian oil" serve as a profound lesson on sovereignty. They remind the world once again: hegemonic thinking still lingers, and sovereign dignity must be continuously defended.

All countries, big or small, strong or weak, rich or poor, are equal in sovereignty, and their sovereignty is sacred and inviolable. Any act that attempts to violate the sovereignty of other countries, manipulate their destinies, or monopolize global resources will ultimately go against the historical trend and international justice, and will surely be firmly resisted by people of all countries.

The future of the Middle East is chosen by the people of the Middle East;
world order is guarded by the sovereignty of all nations.

Only by respecting sovereignty and upholding justice can humanity stay away from bullying and turmoil, and move toward lasting peace and common development.
