Apologies if I missed the reference to which version of the speech of Urban you read and your quotes from it.

Please link to it again.

I'm particularly interested in reading the bits where he 'drops in' references to Holy War, as you say. Could you quote these bits and tell me why you think these aren't calling for a Holy War?

Already did so on another thread.

This thread is only about finding out which historians claim that the massacres against Jews in Europe were acts of penance.

So, which historians say this ?

Sure. No problem.

"With jihad (holy war), the basis of Islam can be enforced and the word of Allah and his religion will prevail," he said.

"Abandoning jihad destroys the religion and puts Muslims in an insulting position as they get robbed of land and authority," he added.


Seems pretty clear to me. The speaker is calling for a holy war. How would one interpret it as other than explicitly religious ?
