Reader's digest: It's the occupation stupid/Bush's fault

Well, I hope she is not executed for the charges against her - she was accused of insulting prophet Muhammad and in Pakistan, such speech carries the death penalty.

Unfortunately, if she were freed (unlikely), 80% of Pakistan's population would still like to see her dead. I can't imagine that she would be safe if she were to be acquitted of the charges - nor would any Christian community in Pakistan who takes her in.

The family of a Pakistani Christian woman sentenced to death for blasphemy is appealing the verdict with the Lahore High Court. Asia Bibi, a mother of two and field hand, was sentenced to death for allegedly making slanderous remarks about the Prophet Muhammad.

Blasphemy is a capital offense under Pakistani law. Bibi is the first Christian woman in Pakistan to be sentenced to death for blasphemy. Yet her guilt is questionable.

One report claims Bibi's neighbors objected to an infidel touching the communal water bowl and approached a cleric, claiming she had insulted the Prophet.

Another report claims some of the women workers had reportedly been pressuring Bibi to renounce her Christian faith and accept Islam. During the discussion, Bibi responded by speaking of how Jesus had died on the cross for the sins of mankind and asking the Muslim women what Muhammad had done for them.

The Muslim women took offence and began to beat Bibi and she was locked in a room by some men. A mob reportedly formed and “violently abused” her and her children. [A mob doesn't form? Now that would be a story - event horizon]

What ever the case, last week Bibi was found guilty of committing blasphemy against her fellow farm workers in the village of Ittanwali during a heated discussion about religion in June last year, and now her family is appealing that conviction.

Anti-Christian sentiment runs high in Pakistan. There are reports of Muslim relief agencies discriminating against Christians while distributing aid to people affected by last summer's devastating floods.

To learn more of Islam's stance regarding those who insult prophets, please see the following thread:

http://www.islam-qa.com/en/ref/22809

In it, are the rulings of Muslim scholars and a saying from the times of Muhammad where a Jewish slave girl was stabbed in the stomach by her Muslim master after she repeatedly insulted Muhammad.

Muhammad learned of the death of a Jewish slave girl and asked the slave master to give blood money for her death, but after learning that Muhammad was being insulted by the slave, he declared that no money is to be paid for her. In other words, it was 'ok' that the master stabbed his slave girl to death over a few insults.

There are so many things wrong with that story that I wouldn't know where to begin. But suffice it to say that most Muslims agree with the contents of the story and that mostly explains the current situation we're in.

Well, it doesn't look like the people of Pakistan are happy that the federal government may intervene and pardon the Christian lady after she was convicted of blasphemy and sentenced to death.

We'll see if the Pakistani government serves the people or only serves the interests of elites and Western powers:

My bet is that the government let her go. Pakistan is no Saudi - they don't like to cause international outrage on human rights and their president (pure scum thief at best) likes to protray himself regularly to western media as being a well educated gentleman with strong morals. Lets see what happens but thats what I reckon will happen - woman lives.

We'll see Joe.

But if the Pak government goes against the wishes of the people by pardoning this woman, who was sentenced to death for insulting Muhammad, many Muslims won't be happy.

There are already angry protests promising Jihad against the government and other forms of religious violence if the lady is not executed.

I'm afraid the government may not have any choice in the matter if they don't want this incident to be used to gain more recruits for the Pakistani Taliban and other genuinely Muslim/Islamic movements, as the Pakistani minister of tourism recently said of the Taliban:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/p ... 727952.ece

Islamabad, Nov 24 (IANS) The Taliban are 'the true followers of Islamic ideology', says a Pakistan minister who also believes that 'America is the biggest terrorist of the world'.

According to federal Minister for Tourism Maulana Attaur Rehman: 'Ulema and Taliban are the true followers of Islamic ideology and America is the biggest terrorist of the world, which is creating hatred against them.'

I don't know where you got that story from, but this came up on a nother forum and all the links specifically said the Koran does not advocate death in the case of blasphemy.

Pakistan is such a backwards country, most of it's people are uneducated and believe anything told to them.

The recorded sayings of the prophet make it clear that Islam prescribes the death penalty for blasphemy:

The Koran also legitimizes honor killings and the killing of apostates.

Any Muslim who tells you differently should read their Koran.
