Anyone? Any ideas? Very much appreciated...

This is exactly why people visiting the UAE should read about the local laws, customs and culture - first!

Chocoholic - I am well aware that gambling is illegal in the UAE. Gambling is illegal in most countries without a license (i.e. USA, England, etc). That does not change the fact that private friendly poker games happen all the time in Dubai and many, many, many other cities around the world whether Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Budist, Hindu or secular. Your tone and condescending attitude are neither appreciated nor helpful.

Perhaps I should have been more specific, though any poker players would perfectly understand my meaning. Please allow me to rephrase. I am familiar with the local laws and culture with respect to gambling. My question is if anyone knows of a friendly private game out there with an empty seat or room for one more. I appreciate any info. Thanks!

Sleepless - forgot to mention that i have poker chips with me! Sounds like maybe you are interested in a game? Have any mates who are similarly inclined?

Also, I'm not sure if this would be a hassle or not with shipping, etc but E-Bay has lots of chips and accessories...

I'll be over in Dubai in April and wouldn't mind particapting in the odd game just for fun.

From what I gather alot of websites are banned in Dubai. Any chance of logining into www.betfair.com ? or anyway round it?

Live anywhere in the Internet City and you can access gambling sites.

Is this 100% true?

My fiance and I are in the middle of looking for a holiday home in Dubai, the thing is i make my living gambling, and the only reason we where looking for a holiday home was because i didnt think i would be able to gamble while there, if this is tru we could change our plans and make it our permanent home.

People have actually been arrested, locked up and deported for gambling here in UAE.

The internet city has unrestricted web access. In terms of buying, the main residential areas this includes are Dubai Marina and The Greens (all flats) and The Lakes and Emirates Hills (expensive villas). Buying property here entitles you to a residency visa I believe, not sure if you have to declare your employment tho.

2 warnings:
- although accessible, gambling remains illegal here. Should you ever be caught you'd likely be deported. That said, I've not heard of anyone being charged with accessing any type of, erm, banned activity on the net so it's unclear if they really monitor it.
- there were murmurings of removing removing the total restriction on the internet. This would obviously upset the many people and companies who moved there on the promise of an internet "free" zone, but when they decide to change things here as long as it doesn't upset locals they don't care.

here is a useless fact, Burj Al Arab was built on an island to allow it to have a casino inside but when word got out there was so much of an uproar they scrapped the idea, there is still rumours that when Dubai takes a downturn one of the Aces in their pocket is to legalize gambling on the palm and world as technically it is not part of the UAE but rather manmade.

Another Dubai urban legend or not remains to be seen, My personal thought is they'll never have legalized gaming here in my lifetime.

I say Dubai will have no choice but to bring gambling in. Think about it what is everyone going to do after construction stops. Think of everyone that you know in dubai and most of them are directly related to Construction (even your marketing, advertising, exhibition, etc. etc. people).

Atlantis is rising fast from the Palm Crescent. Atlantis = gambling!

I think they'll have to. They have a potential multi-billion dollar white elephant on their hands in the form of the Bawadi project (where one hotel alone will have more rooms than are currently in Dubai) and they'll need to do something to attract people out there. Also, some very influential hoteliers setting up in Dubai at the moment made their money through Vegas, expect strong pressure to change the laws.

If you have the pokerstars client you can play poker. If you don't have it, you will need a VPN...to download it... after that you are golden...

Now... seeing im from the states, I wonder if i can change my residency here, to play PStars for money... that is the milli dollar question.

Seeing how nothing happens here... I could def. grind out tourney's in my down time.
