There's a Hadith, apparently, that men shouldn't dye their beards black, but should dye it with Henna - the stuff they make Henna tattoos with.
Hence the sun-burnt leprechaun look.
(These guys will also typically have the 'short trousers' look as well, as the Prophet disapproved of clothes that dragged along the ground - as it was a sign of decadence).
We have these guys, you have the Amish..
