One funny story about credit card Jun 17, 2009
So today I called a credit card provider ("Bc" platinum) to close it down as I'm leaving the country soon. It's been several months since the last time I use this credit card. I always paid in full every month so I'm sure there was no balance due.

Call center staff : "... but Sir, your credit card has been closed"
Me: "What?? I've never requested for closing. I didn't use the card for quite sometimes, yes. I requested few months ago to close down supplement card. But I've never requested to close the primary card down."
CCS: "From the record you reported lost card and requested to close it"
Me: "I've never reported for lost card and never requested to close it. But if it's already closed, then no problem. But please make sure that I don't have any active cards anymore"
CCS: "Yes Sir, you don't have any active cards anymore. Anything I can do more?"
Me: "That's all. Thank you, have a good day"

Aren't you supposed to take a "No Liability Certificate" or Security Cheque (if given) back from them?

This place is a crap hole as far as bank processes are concerned.

I would suggest you call the bank once more and speak to a diff CSA and reconfrm the story.

And no, the banks do not return the security cheque.

Shoot! I didn't think of that when closing 2 credit cards in the past. Would that be a major problem in the future, in other words can the bank be trusted? I'm not even sure if they will return the cheque!

So far I haven't experienced any problem from banks in such scenario but having read the stories of some banks (ABN Amro) on a forum, one should ask for the security cheques or a letter.

it happened to me twice when traveling , tried to use my ATM card and visa but they were closed !! called the bank , it appears that they closed them for a security reasons since they have been used outside the country !! just like that with out calling me or verifying my where about they decided to close them. I had a real hard time at the time but what to do.

It's a different issue and it happens to me all the times when I am traveling. Every time I swipe my card (even if it is every half an hour), I have to make an international call to UAE and ask my bank to authorize the purchase

Just a tip for everyone.

If you would like to close your credit card, please don't do it on the phone only. Go to the bank and make sure that you signed it. Otherwise you will just regret because you might be paying for something that you didn't know at all.
