need some advice! Feb 18, 2006
hey guys, got my offer today.

I'll be doing the marketing and sales for a big equipment rental company there in dubai but just for their new modular building company. marketing and selling prefab buildings, camp sites and other building projects to the oil companies, armed forces and event promotions around the gulf.

I'll be getting accom and a car allowance and full medical.

not going to mention my pay range, but i want you guys 'n' gals to guess it....or perhaps any others in the same field could give me an idea of the monthly sallary i should be expecting just to make sure i am not underselling myself.

hehehe, man, don't get frustrated, i was just joking.

I have no idea

But... discarding anything (experience, age, nationality)

10K will make you like avergae, nice house and car, not sharing but not living in fancy place.

15 k will do you really good, nice car, house in good compound, and you can save some money.

Above that is required if you have family and support wife, children

hope that was anyhow helpful

Best advice I can give richmc is that you get your pre-tax Aussie salary here -since your accom. and car is paid that should more than cover you. We have a big family so our expenses(me, being the greatest expense but well worth the expenditure  ) would far out weigh yours I assume so I wouldn't be of much help.

Our housing and car allowance is dependant on job grade. Someone at his grade and being single would receive that housing allowance. If you have a family then + 15kAED.

How much more detail do you want? Or would you like me to negotiate your contract for you as well?

Those are the 2 main allowances you'd get here. If your salary doesn't reflect, ie no expat premium, then you might get something like a living allowance as well.

The part of Liban will be played by........XRW-147!!

Personally I think you should expect less of the expat perks-by all means ask for them, but don't expect them. This place has a low COLA and lets face it, it is hardly "hardship" nor "developing"

You NEED medical insurance before anything else.

Oh, just re-read-you have full medical (I'd check out who and what it is personally) so you should be right.
