I did have a little chuckle at this letter and the subsequent comments, but it's so true. Why do some people feel it necessary to literally be stuck to you? It creeps me out and I do politely tell people that they're invading my personal space and there is no need for them to stand so close.

It seems to happen more here than in most places.

So true - I chucked too.

However, if the person is from another culture, it is worth noting that the concept of personal space, eye contact etc is a cultural thing:

shafique , Yeah I know that. But when you're not used to it, having others in such close proximity can be a little off putting. Especially if, say you're in the queue at the supermarket, they're not going to get to the checkout any quicker.

A "If you do not back the fark up, right now! I will kill you, your family and then hunt down all your relatives and kill them too stare" usually works for me
