HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!! Jan 15, 2006
hi I am moving to Dubai from london very soon.

Am in the process of finding a job and all that.

But since I have been looking I am getting so many shocks!!!

I am expected to pay rent in advance for a whole year?????????

Can someone advice what the best way for a couple who have just got married and have no savings the best way to come and start life in dubai would be please.

Where can I rent from etc etc. is it easier to get a mortgage and buy something?

Shall i sort a job out from here or do it when I get there.

There are so many questions I need answers to and am hoping someone reading this can advice me A-Z what I need to do once I land.

Cheers

You can normally always negotiate to pay in 3 or 4 cheques over the year, I don't know anyone who would pay for a whole year up front, it's totally unrealistic.

Avoid letting agencies if you can, tnhey totally rip you off with commission, best bet is to contact landlords directly.

Buying is still a bit of an unknown here and if you have no savings getting a mortgage will be a nightmare as you normally have to fork out a massive percentage up front.

Much of the time it's better to actually be in the country to find a job.

You can pay in 2 cheques if thats gives any comfort!

But if you agree to pay one cheque, you can negotiate a bit.. I did pay in one cheque and managed to reduce the rent by 7-8k..

Not sure now though.. as the rents should start falling soon..

Haha. the Daily Mirror, one of the worst 'rags' in the UK. Read mainly by socialists, as you can see from the tone of the article. Socialist 'sour grapes' whining about people who are brave enough to get off their a*ses and move to a place far safer and more secure than the UK, and make money while doing it. That is so them.

LOL. I was at a brunch with 11 other people yesterday, all Brits. Between us we found that we only personally know two (or it might have been three) Brits that have left for the UK since the start of these problems, and we know quite a lot of people between us!

The UK press is mostly a pile of politically slanted garbage (you can generally buy at least one newspaper that will tell you exactly what you want to hear, whatever your views), it makes me chuckle that some people here love to quote from them as though they actually are worth reading. I'm not directing this particularly at RobbyG, but at our currently pretty quiet rabble-rousing contributors :D

I hear ya.

But don't you agree, without me being British at all I tend to see the irony of the writer. I love it how he sprouts out his viewpoint.

Not that its true. You don't hear me say any of that. But I do enjoy the rant ;)
