JOB HUNT DUBAI Jan 28, 2006
hi everyone,

read a lot in the meantime regarding job hunt, expatriares and opportunities but still got some questions and in the meantime i really cant sleep as im trying hard to find answers. maybe anyone can help me out with some info and opinions/ experieneces:

I am a 28 year old graduate from Germany. Finished studies in business management with focus on marketing/ communications. Did internships in South Africa and China as well as a 1 year work and travel stay in Australia.

Experience is 1 year in an agency specialising in events management.

The question are:

How hard is the market right now for more or less Graduates with (nearly) no experience?

Will it work if i come to Dubai for max. 8 weeks (visa) to find a first job?

Which income may i expect?

How fast and easy will i find accomodation? Due the fact that rental prices are high: What are your experiences - I mean: Its not interesting to work and live in Dubai if i havent enough money left at the end of the day as i have to pay so much for accomodation.

Main question for me is: If i ont have an offer from acompany to join them, ideally with an expat contract which would cover several costs : Is it still worth it to choose Dubai?

And: Would you really go for it or recommend to gain some experience and apply for jobs in 1 or 2 years time?

Dont get me wrong: I am highly motivated and i really want to work and live there. In my eyes it might be hard to find a job, especially with no exp. but its not impossible or harder than anywhere elese in the world , isnt it?

Thnak all of you so much for every little help.

At the moment, the market for Communication specialists is rather okay here. After all, there is a Media & Internet City... But for fresh graduates, it might be a bit more difficult, but not impossible, as I am very close now in getting a job here (have only 2 years experience).

Yeah, u can come to Dubai and try looking for a job within 8 weeks. But, it would be wise if u do a bit homework and try arranging as much interviews as possible from where u are now. Besides, if your Visit Visa expires, u can leave the country, come back again to Dubai, and u get a new Visit Visa for 2 months.

Income: As an European graduate, atleast 9,000 Dhs/m.

My experiences in getting a place in Dubai: Easy thing. Just look for online ads (dubizzle.com, expatriates.com) every day, and u will find something for sure. But yeah, living here is very expensive... So, u must have some money with u to survive here without a job...

About your main question: I don't really understand ... pls explain...

So, as a fresh graduate it isnt impossible to find a job here, but it aint easy. Still, u are lucky there are plenty of opportunities here in the field of communication, if u can survive the first two months here financially, u should give it a try
