Dubai - not any more tax free? Apr 07, 2008
We heard information that Dubai is not going to be tax free any more after few years!

Does anyone know something about that? Is that true?

If yes, do you think that this has any sense for Dubai future, since tax free is maybe the most important reason for expats movement and work here?

The Saudis imposed income tax on foreigners back in the 80s. A lot of people left.

U.A.E seems like a tax free country, however, there are many hidden charges associated with living here

Yep. The whole thing of 'tax free UAE' is becoming a misnomer, as taxes disguised as 'fees' invade every part of life here.

It is a racing certainty though, that income tax won't come to these shores - unless they fancy seeing how quick the government can evacuate the country.

I don't know what you guys in Dubai are moaning about, when you talk about tax. Going by what is on that great web-site www, it seems you hardly have any tax at all. In the UK , we have Income Tax and Value Added Tax [VAT]on all purchases [almost all] at 17.5 per cent. Then petrol is taxed so much that it costs £1.15 sterling per litre. That is about 2.3 US dollars per litre. Now, according to www, your taxes are minimal. It says on that site somewhere that VAT is going to be introduced to a small extent. Count your lucky stars I say!!
Do you want to do a swap with UK taxes?

We can moan because we know both sides of the coin - what it is like to live in the Uk and Dubai.

And your shameless plugging for a completely rubbish site that provides only the most basic information (which is no doubt taken from other sites) and looks like it was written by someone that has never even been to Dubai.
This all suggests that your threads are only here for the purpose of plugging.

Not at all Admog. I put the search term "dubai gold souq " into Google UK initially because I was interested in visiting and investing in some gold, because the FTSE stock market is so volatile and leading shares are risky. It was www that I found at the top on Google UK.
Then I happened to read this forum and see people moaning about tax. What are they moaning about? Taxes are needed by countries to run economies and provide services. Since you seem to have abandoned to UK because you don't want to contribute to the Health service, defence ,or UK old-age pensioners, are you now moaning about minuscule taxes in Dubai? Who is going to pay for all the Govt services out there if there are no taxes at all?
Where will you go if you become very ill? Back to the UK to ride on our Health Service that we have paid for with high taxes whilst you dodge them?
All I can see on that web-site re tax is some possible VAT being levied. Big deal ! I say. We have to pay 17.5 per cent in the UK on most things. Did you go to Dubai to dodge that as well?
How can ANY government run any services without levying taxes?

I used to think how lucky people in Dubai were not to have to pay tax. However,as far as I know in most cases you have to be extra for health care, dentists, schools etc, plus I would assume if you became unemployed you wouldn't receive any kind of benefits.
So maybe your not so well off after all.

Arniegang, XP clone, Goebbels and Adolf,
Well! Well! Not only has the site I mentioned earlier been removed from postings whilst Dubai sites have not, but now you inform me that you can't get it from Dubai. Well here in the UK, that site , is still available and entering "Dubai gold souk" into Google UK finds it at number 4 spot on the front page.
Now if access to any of that has been interfered with from the Dubai end, I would wonder if you are in a knowledge-controlling police state , or similar?
Nothing has changed from the British end. We can all read of the rude ,anonymous , interfering ex-pats who think they can be insolent because they are are anonymous. Pathetic!

I have pm'd you this but you obviously have not read it.

Please do not blame anyone else apart from me. It was i who edited out the link to your website for 4 reasons

1/ I am in the UK and the site was not operable from from here.

2/ I have UK googled on "dubai gold souk" and your site was not listed within the first 5 pages. (see 1 above)

3/ Everyone including myself was fed up with your monotonous posts which contributed nothing but to advertise your site which did not work.

4/ You are quite rude to other posters. XP called you a retard, well thats how you come across, so get used to it.

You have assumed everyone here in in Dubai - you are incorrect. I am in the south West and not very far from you, in fact just over the Bridge :P.

Arniegang,
Marvellous !! You're not biased of course!!
[1] You say that I was rude to others. You must be really joking !
They ...two or three of them...chucked the FIRST stones....not me...then you agreed with "retard" ...Charming !! You are completely biased towards your mates!
[2] I did not say you were ALL in Dubai, but most of the respondees are!
[3] When I said "dubai gold souk" search into Google UK brought up visit-dubai.co.uk , I had got mixed up. The actual site I saw was
visit-uae.co.uk in 4th place on Google UK and 30th place on Google the web.
Then if you enter the search term "visit dubai" into Google uk ,visit-dubai.co.uk is in 3rd and is 4th on Google.com
The reason for the mix-up is that visit-uae.co.uk and visit-dubai.co.uk are interlinked. They are part of the same site system....Twin sites. I had gone from memory and mentioned the wrong one of the two. But if you had bothered to look, you would have realised what I meant. Now if they were MY sites , would I have made that minor error?

Arniegang,
Wrong, I'm not selling a web-site. I merely informed you what happens when someone in the UK searches for "dubai gold souk" on Google UK.
What's your problem? I was interested in buying some gold items over the internet from the gold souk.
Why not admit I'm correct about the position of visit-uae.co.uk instead of avoiding it?
You lot won't admit you're wrong.

Want a REAL surprise?

Go to visit-dubai.co.uk and click the TOP LEFT BLUE Ad on that page.
" Buy a property in Dubai" is the title. Click the first 3 pages of it.
Then you might see who I am !!
You might even have a shock!!

XP Clown,
I know it is a Google Ad called "buy a property in Dubai" on visit-dubai.co.uk on Google UK.
I said there was a clue there. Why should I tell you who I am?
You don't say who you are or your company's name!

Reviewer,
There's an "R" in SURPRISE. Surprise! Surprise!!
I'm glad that I had an education! It comes in handy !!
The only time I can get caught with spelling is when I enter "dubai gold souk" , because it can be "dubai gold souq" with a Q. That's the trouble with translating from Arabic. You can have different spellings , as you probably know. Mind you, Google knows "Souk" and "souq". Clever Google!
Dubai is sometimes spelt Dubayy , which can mess up some internet marketing.
Again, on that visit-dubai.co.uk site, I noticed that Abu Dhabi can be Abu Zaby.
It is Abu Zaby in my National Geographic atlas, which sells millions globally , so there could well be confusion across the world on that place's name.
Spelling creates havoc with marketing and the internet. Imagine if people spelt Coca Cola as Koca Kola , or Guinness as Giness!!!
No good for branding , is it?

The UAE is MARKETING ABU DHABI......as a big, big "BRAND". Yet the BIGGEST SELLING ATLAS in the WORLD, National Geographic, is educating HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS GLOBALLY that the name is ABU ZABY.....because that is on the map!
Someone should tell your UAE Government!!
BRAND NAME CONFUSION could cost them hundreds of millions of pounds! Big money, however rich they are!
Have they marketed or used abu-zaby.com out there? Doubt it!
Now THERE is a BIG marketing chance! Millions must KNOW Abu Zaby from atlases!!

I'm not the one banging on about "You don't who I am" and "Ooh you will be so surprised"

You're trying to give people hints to who you are. If you don't want people to know then stop dropping hints.

I suspect that you are a snotty nosed little oink just pretending to be a big shot. Get over yourself.
