Me and the wife are moving out to dubai next week. We'll need to get a couple of mobile phones. How expensive is it to buy one without contract, just a fairly basic one, doesn't have to be latest model?

Get your own unlocked for a tenner in most phone shops.
Then just git a sim card over here.

There are no contracts in Dubai. You have to purchase your own phone (or have your old phone unlocked) and then go to either DU or Etisalat and apply for a sim card. You have pre-paid and post-paid options for billing.
