Where can I go skiing? Oct 08, 2007
Before you say it no I dont want to go to the Mall, I need the proper stuff!

I want to plan a trip around Feb/March but dont have a clue where might be close thats got some decent slopes and entertainment. I know of and have been to a lot of resorts in the Alps, but wondered if there was anywhere closer/cheaper to go?!

Iran, won't be as good as the Alps but you'll have a blast. Google companies that do tours.

Cheers Fayz.

Why will I have a blast? Is the nightlife good?

Scarlet - Do you know specific places in Lebo which are good?

Besides Lebanon, I think there are some hill stations also in Northern India (Himalayan). I don't know much though.

I was talking about the skiing some decent powder if you are lucky and hit the good climate.

There is nightlife there but to thoroughly enjoy you need to befriend the locals and get invited it is a bit under ground.

All from what I hear, no personal experience.

Cheers guys.

Anyone know if its worth buying the gear here? Think I spotted a skiing shop in the mall but I didnt venture in (would imagine its pretty expensive?!).

Hey Craigo - a group of us are going to Lebanon to ski in Feb for a long weekend (sun/mon off). We're going here: http://www.faraya-mzaar.com. Ive been told its an hour from Beirut, nightlife will be good. Have some locals coming with us, we're all staying in a big chalet, so should be fun :)

Yup. Join us if you want, the more the merrier :)

About your gear question, I brought all my stuff over from Oz, but I noticed the gear at MoE is slightly cheaper...plus I dont think they will have decent shops over in Lebanon. You could hire there though, will save having to lug it all around.

Hey thanks! I just might take you up on that. Please could you send me some more details through PM?

Yeah I checked it out this week and it doesnt seem too bad. Would definitely be tempted just to hire though!

you can also go skiing in the alps and keep the costs relatively low... of course most agencys offer holidays with 4 star hotels . they cost about 140€ per night, but in the top ski areas in austria there are lots of accomodations which are not in cataloques and cost from 30€ per night too.

one of the most beautiful ski villages is "obertauern" in austria. very very big ski area and very nice nightlife. if you dont take expensive hotels it will cost for 7 days about:
700 flight
400 hotel incl half board
170 ski card
= ~ € 1270 + drinks... going out... gear ( which you can hire )

with a typical 4* ski hotel it will be about 1800 or more...

if you need more infos for a holiday in the alps, just contact me, im local ;)

Iran for skiing. No nightlife unless you know residents.
Lebanon has decent nightlife but skiing isn't as challenging.
